Vardy back among goals as Leicester thump Villa 4-0

Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy ended his long scoring drought with two goals after coming off the bench as they returned to winning ways with a 4-0 drubbing of Premier League strugglers Aston Villa at the King Power Stadium on Monday.

* Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Monday (Mar 9) announced that the country's top-flight Serie A football league, along with all sporting events in the country, will be suspended until Apr 3 as Italy grapples with the coronavirus crisis.

* This week's Champions League soccer clash between Paris Saint Germain and Borussia Dortmund will take place behind closed doors due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak, said the Paris police authority on Monday (Mar 9). The game at Paris' Parc des Princes stadium this Wednesday will see PSG go into the second-leg having lost the first tie in Dortmund 2-1.

* Manchester United have frozen their season ticket prices for the ninth straight season in general admission areas of the stadium, the Premier League club said on Monday. In addition to the price freeze, United said they would expand dedicated areas for vocal fans in the Stretford End at Old Trafford to increase decibel levels.

* FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have agreed to postpone the upcoming Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, it was announced on Monday (Mar 9), with Singapore among the teams affected. This applies to matches originally scheduled to take place during the international windows of Mar 23 to Mar 31 and Jun 1 to Jun 9.

* All French top flight soccer matches will be played behind closed doors or with a maximum attendance of 1,000 people until April 15 due to the coronavirus outbreak, French Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu told a press conference on Monday.

* The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) said on Monday it has suspended ticket sales for the Euro 2020 qualifying playoff semi-final between Bulgaria and Hungary on March 26 because of the coronavirus outbreak.

* Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has given club and country a major boost after returning to training following a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since Jan. 1.

* Italian sprinter Giacomo Nizzolo pounced late to win a rainy stage two of the Paris-Nice on Monday (Mar 9), as pre-race favourite Nairo Quintana had a damaging day. Sunday's stage 1 winner Germany's Maximilian Schachmann of the Bora team remains in the overall leader's yellow jersey, while two time Giro d'Italia points winner Nizzolo is in second 15 seconds adrift.

* Olympiakos Piraeus's Europa League last 16, first leg tie at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday will go ahead without any fans, European soccer's governing body UEFA announced on Monday. It is the latest match effected by the coronavirus outbreak with Paris St Germain's Champions League last 16 second-leg home clash with Borussia Dortmund at the Parc des Princes stadium on Wednesday also closed to fans.
