Liverpool knocked out by Atletico's extra-time triple

Holders Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League in the last 16 after Atletico Madrid struck three times in extra time to earn a shock 3-2 victory at Anfield on Wednesday that sent them through 4-2 on aggregate.

* Paris Saint-Germain shrugged off having to play in an empty stadium as Neymar set the French club on their way to a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday (Mar 11) that took them into the Champions League quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

* Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka will be out of action for several weeks after picking up a knee injury, the Premier League club said on Wednesday. The Slovak was involved in a clash with Saints forward Danny Ings in Saturday's 1-0 win but played the full 90 minutes.

* The French League Cup final between Paris St Germain and Olympique Lyonnais, initially scheduled for April 4, has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, the French League (LFP) said on Wednesday.

* FIFA has postponed its annual Congress, due to be held in Ethiopia in June, for three months due to the coronavirus outbreak, the world soccer body said on Wednesday. FIFA said in a statement that its 70th Congress, where delegations from all 211 of its member national associations are due to meet, will take place in Addis Ababa on Sept. 18.

* PSV Eindhoven have appointed German Roger Schmidt as their new coach on a two-year contract starting next season, the Eredivisie club announced in a statement. The 52-year-old will take over from interim coach Ernest Faber, who will return to his role with the club’s youth set-up. Faber replaced Marc van Bommel, who was sacked in mid-December after a series of poor results.

* MotoGP postponed a fourth race on Wednesday due to the coronavirus outbreak, with Argentina shuffled from April to November and the season set to start at Spain's Jerez circuit on May 3.

* Next month's Fed Cup tennis finals in Budapest have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ITF said on Wednesday (Mar 11). The revamped 12-team women's competition scheduled for Apr 14-19 as well as a series of play-off ties were called off "in response to COVID-19 health concerns", the ITF said in a statement.

* The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has no plans to postpone any club or international fixtures due to the coronavirus outbreak, but is open to scheduling matches behind closed doors, the organisation said on Wednesday.

* Italy's Federica Brignone hailed the "dream of a lifetime" after being crowned overall Women's World Cup alpine skiing champion on Wednesday after the coronavirus outbreak scuppered the final races of the season.

* Juventus and Italy defender Daniele Rugani has tested positive for coronavirus, the Serie A champions announced on Wednesday (Mar 11), adding that all the isolation procedures required by law are currently being activated, including those who have had contact with him.

* All Premier League and lower division matches in England are to be played without spectators amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the Times reported on Wednesday (Mar 11). The report said the season will not be postponed and that the games behind closed doors will not be shown in pubs "to avoid congregation of people".

* Tiger Woods will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2021, receiving the necessary 75per cent of support from the body's voting panel. Woods's 15 major championships are second only to the 18 captured by Jack Nicklaus. Woods also has 82 official PGA Tour victories, tied for the all-time record with Sam Snead.

* Tokyo Olympics organisers said on Wednesday that neither the Tokyo 2020 organising committee nor the International Olympic Committee was considering postponing or cancelling the 2020 Games despite the spread of coronavirus.

* Two members of the Haas Formula One team and one from McLaren were quarantined in Melbourne on Wednesday (Mar 11) as a precaution amid COVID-19 fears ahead of Sunday's season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
