According to the projected schedule recently announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Park Hang-seo’s Vietnamese side will play guest to Malaysia on October 13 before taking on Indonesia at Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium on November 12.
The Golden Stars will travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their last Group G clash against the hosts, slated for five days later.
Previously, the Vietnam-Iraq friendly, which had initially been scheduled in Ho Chi Minh City on March 26, did not take place as planned due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The VFF sent an invitation to the Kyrgyz team as an alternative, but the match was also forced to be cancelled by the novel coronavirus disease.
Most recently, the Iraq Football Association (IFA) extended a proposal to the VFF concerning the reorganisation of the cancelled friendly between the two national teams. This is good news for Park Hang-seo and his players as Iraq are considered a quality opponent. VFF General Secretary Le Hoai Anh said the federation is reviewing regulations regarding the Government’s COVID-19 prevention and control requirements. If permitted, the Vietnam-Iraq friendly will possibly be held on October 8 in Hanoi.
In round two of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, Vietnam currently lead Group G with 11 points, followed by Malaysia (nine), Thailand (eight), the UAE (six) and Indonesia (zero points).
