NDO – Ho Chi Minh City missed the chance to further solidify their grip at the top of the V.League table after being held to a 2-2 home draw in their Matchday 7 encounter on June 29.

The climax of the match came in the last five minutes of play when the two teams created a thrilling score chase, scoring three out of the total four goals.

Lagging 1-0 throughout the first 87 minutes, HCM City pushed hard to restore parity and prompt to a 2-1 advantage. However, their joy was short-lived as SHB Da Nang managed to equalise the score seconds before the final whistle to grab a precious away point.

The guests enjoyed the first opportunity of the match, with forward Grace Tanda driving a powerful strike narrowly wide after just 29 seconds. Meanwhile, HCM City could also have gone ahead in the half hour mark, but midfielder Vo Huy Toan shot incredibly wide from close range.

The deadlock was broken for SHB Da Nang a few minutes before halftime, as Thanh Hai burst down in the right flank and passed the ball back to Phan Van Long who fired a low finish past HCM City’s defensive wall to put Le Huynh Duc’s side in front.

Goalkeeper Thanh Thang rescued HCM City twice early in the second half by impressively blocking Tanda’s attempts.

With time running out, the hosts gradually took control of the match and put up pressure on the away side. Their efforts paid off in the 88th minute as Tran Thanh Binh rifled a powerful shot past goalkeeper Tuan Manh to level the score. Four minutes later, centre back Pape Diakite gifted HCM City a 2-1 advantage with a cunning close-range header.

Despite the draw, HCM City still remain on top of the standings with 14 points, three above second-placed Viettel who thrashed Quang Nam FC 3-0 away earlier on the same day. Meanwhile, SHB Da Nang stand 10th with eight points.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Hai Phong FC played out a goalless draw to stand level on nine points.

Today (June 30), the V.League will continue with the remaining four Matchday 7 fixtures, including Thanh Hoa FC vs Quang Ninh Coal, Nam Dinh FC vs Song Lam Nghe An, Hong Linh Ha Tinh vs Becamex Binh Duong, and Hanoi FC vs Saigon FC.
