As of 6pm on Thursday, Vietnam recorded 91 new COVID-19 cases, including 84 domestically-transmitted cases detected in the northern provinces of Hai Duong and Quang Ninh and seven imported cases.

“The situation of COVID-19 in Quang Ninh and Hai Duong is currently evolving in a complicated fashion. After consulting from the Vietnam Football Federation and clubs, the Vietnam Professional Football Company (VPF) has decided to temporarily halt league matches from Round 4 and wait for new announcements from competent agencies,” VPF Chairman Tran Anh Tu said.

Earlier, the organisers decided to postpone the Round 3 clash between Quang Ninh Coal and Ho Chi Minh City FC slated for this weekend at Quang Ninh’s Cam Pha Stadium.

On the morning of January 29, it was announced that two more matches would be pushed back to ensure safety in the context of the pandemic, namely Hai Phong FC vs Hanoi FC at Lach Tray Stadium (January 30) and SHB Da Nang vs Hong Linh Ha Tinh at Hoa Xuan Stadium (January 29).

The two other Round 3 fixtures – Thanh Hoa FC vs Nam Dinh FC (January 30) and Viettel FC vs Becamex Binh Duong (January 31) – will be played behind closed doors.

In the 2020 season, the V.League 1 was also twice suspended due to COVID-19. However, with the format change, the country’s professional football tournaments concluded successfully.
