With 1,258 points, Vietnam maintained their ranking of 93rd in the world, 14th in Asia as well as continuing to be the No. 1 team in Southeast Asia.
Thailand, the second ranked team in the region, placed 110th in the world with 1,178 points and 20th in Asia.
Asia's top team is still Japan in 27th, followed by Iran (No. 29), the Republic of Korea (ranked 38th), Australia (ranked 41st) and Qatar (ranked 58th).
The 10 teams in the world have not changed. Leading the world is still Belgium with 1,780 points, followed by France, Brazil, England, Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico and Italy.
However, next month, it is likely the FIFA rankings will see strong fluctuations as national teams gather to prepare for international matches with 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Europe and South America.
For Vietnam, it is likely the "Golden Stars" will maintain this position for quite some time as the Asian FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers have been rescheduled to June due to COVID-19.

According to the FIFA rankings, the Vietnamese team has seen a strong advancement in the past 10 years, rising from No. 137 in 2010 to No. 93, a move of 44 places.
In 2021, the main mission for the team is progressing to the final round of the Asian FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers and competing in the regional AFF Championship as defending champions.
“In 2021, Vietnamese football has many important tasks and I understand these are challenges. I promise to do my best to achieve these goals with the Vietnamese teams,” affirmed head coach Park Hang-seo at a meeting with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien yesterday.
“I have spent time researching issues relating to the team’s preparation for the remaining three matches in the second qualifying round for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and I still practice daily to ensure the best preparation for my future duties,” the Korean strategist affirmed.

Vietnam are in top position in Group G with 11 points after five matches and the remaining three matchdays soon to take place in the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
As the remaining matches have been rescheduled due to COVID-19, Vietnam will now meet Indonesia on June 7, followed by a clash with the second team in Group G – Malaysia on June 11 and their last group match against the UAE on June 15. The host country of the remaining Group G' matches will be announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on March 15.
