Ten-man Porto stun Juve to reach last eight

Ten-man Porto upset Juventus to reach the Champions League quarter-finals on away goals after a 4-4 aggregate draw despite losing 3-2 to the Italian side on Tuesday.

* Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland struck once in each half as they drew 2-2 with Sevilla in their Champions League last-16 second leg on Tuesday and advanced to the quarter-finals with a 5-4 aggregate win.

* Paris St Germain forward Neymar has been ruled out of Wednesday's Champions League last-16 second leg against Barcelona, the French side said. A PSG statement on Tuesday said the Brazilian was continuing an individual recovery programme from a thigh injury sustained last month.

* Japan has decided to stage this summer's Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics without overseas spectators due to concern among the Japanese public about COVID-19, Kyodo news agency said on Tuesday, citing officials with knowledge of the matter.

* Germany's World Cup-winning head coach Joachim Loew will step down after the European championships this July, the German football association said on Tuesday (Mar 9). Loew will leave with a year left on his contract having signed up until the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

* Czech fourth seed Petra Kvitova pulled out of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Tuesday after suffering a thigh problem in her second-round match. Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion who lifted the Qatar Open title over the weekend, received a bye into the second round in Dubai but retired in the second set against Swiss Jil Teichmann who was leading 6-2 3-4.

* West Ham United captain Mark Noble signed a contract extension with the Premier League club on Tuesday and said in an open letter to fans that the 2021-22 season will be his 18th and final one at the London side. The 33-year-old has made more than 500 appearances for the club in all competitions and ranks seventh on their all-time appearance list.

* Five Rangers players who breached COVID-19 rules by attending a party last month have been charged by the Scottish FA, with a hearing set for March 25, British media reported on Tuesday.

* Brazil's world famous Maracana stadium is to get a new name, after the Rio de Janeiro state legislature voted on Tuesday to change its official title to the Edson Arantes do Nascimento: Rei Pele stadium. The 80-year-old Pele, whose full name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, played at the stadium many times for Brazil and scored his 1,000th goal there in 1969 - for Santos against local club Vasco da Gama.
