According to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the inoculation drive for the footballers was adjusted to match with the schedule of players in both V.League 1 and the First Division Tournament (V.League 2).

Specifically, national team members were administered their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on April 19-20 when the two aforementioned tournaments were temporarily paused to allow domestic clubs to prepare for the qualifying round of the 2021 Vietnamese National Cup, scheduled to kick off in three days’ time.

They are expected to receive their second dose in the middle of next month.

Earlier on April 5, other members of the national team, including head coach Park Hang-seo, assistant coaches, doctors, experts and officials were vaccinated against COVID-19.

This is part of the Government’s priority policy for members of national teams preparing to go on international missions this year. In regard to the national football squad, they will immediately focus on the remaining three Group G matches in the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, to be held at centralised venues in the United Arab Emirates this June.

As announced recently by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Park Hang-seo’s Vietnamese side will play Indonesia on June 7, Malaysia on June 11 and the UAE on June 15. The Yellow Stars are currently leading Group G with 11 points.

To prepare for the qualifying campaign, the Vietnamese team are set to gather on May 10 before leaving for the UAE on May 27.
