Football: Manchester City fight back to beat 10-man PSG in first leg

Manchester City took a big step towards their first Champions League final as goals by Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez earned them a 2-1 comeback win at Paris St Germain in the semi-final first leg on Wednesday (Apr 28).

PSG went ahead courtesy of a Marquinhos header in the first half, but Mauricio Pochettino's side lost control after the break with De Bruyne and Mahrez finding the back of the net in the space of eight minutes to secure City's 18th consecutive away win in all competitions.

* Millions of Roger Federer fans around the world might be salivating at the prospect of owning some mementos of the Swiss great's incredible career after he announced that he is auctioning off a collection of personal items this summer. The 20-time Grand Slam champion, regarded by many as the greatest player ever to wield a tennis racket, is putting various items under the hammer in two sales in June and July at Christie's to raise money for his foundation.

* Salzburg's American coach Jesse Marsch has agreed terms to succeed Bayern Munich-bound Julian Nagelsmann at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, German media reported Wednesday (Apr 28).

* World number one Novak Djokovic will not defend his Madrid Open title next week as he decided against travelling for the ATP Masters 1000 event, organisers said on Wednesday (Apr 28). The 33-year-old was last seen in action on his home soil at the Serbia Open last week, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to Russia's Aslan Karatsev.

* Real Madrid defender Marcelo could be prevented from playing in next week's Champions League semi-final second leg at Chelsea after being chosen to work in a polling station during a regional election, newspaper El Mundo reported on Wednesday.

* Three-time champion Mark Selby and 2020 finalist Kyren Wilson advanced to the semi-finals of the World Snooker Championship after completing commanding victories on Wednesday. England's Selby beat fellow three-time winner Mark Williams 13-3 with a session to spare at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre while Wilson reeled off five frames in a row to seal a 13-8 victory over 2010 champion Neil Robertson.

* Turkey will replace Canada on this year's Formula One calendar after the June 13 race in Montreal was cancelled on Wednesday (Apr 28) for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Formula One said it had extended Montreal's contract by two years to take into account the cancellations, securing the race until 2031.

* Silverstone will be the first circuit to trial Formula One's new sprint qualifying format, the British Grand Prix venue said on Wednesday (Apr 28). The sport confirmed this week that teams and bosses had agreed unanimously to debut a new points-scoring qualifying race at three grands prix, yet to be confirmed, this season.
