In the letter, FIFA congratulated Vietnamese futsal on the success and shared information about the upcoming World Cup, which will be held in the three cities of Kaunas, Klaipeda and Vilnius in Lithuania between September 12 and October 3.
After a scoreless draw with Lebanon in the first leg of the play-offs in the UAE, Vietnam finally grabbed Asia’s final World Cup ticket on away goals after the second leg finished 1-1.
It is the team’s second ever World Cup participation after their first time in the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia. Vietnam reached the Round of 16 in the tournament five years ago and received the "Fair Play" award for that season.
President of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Khiev Sameth has sent a letter of congratulations to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam futsal team after their success in the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup Qualifiers.
In the letter, the AFF president emphasised that it is an outstanding achievement, especially in the context that the COVID-19 epidemic is causing great impacts on football activities. Overcoming such difficulties, the VFF and the Vietnam futsal team won the ticket to the 2021 Futsal World Cup, Khiev Sameth wrote.
The AFF president also expressed his wish that Vietnam will continue to succeed in the upcoming journey in Lithuania, while ensuring safety and preventing the epidemic in such difficult times.
The Football Association of Thailand has also sent a letter of congratulations to Vietnam's futsal team for their berth at the 2021 Futsal World Cup.
In the letter, on behalf of the Thai football federation, General Secretary Patit Suphaphongs expressed his joy at the Vietnamese team winning the ticket to Futsal World Cup, saying that efforts of team members and the support of fans are valuable things in the current difficult situation caused by COVID-19.
It's great that two teams in Southeast Asia have qualified to compete in the biggest futsal arena in the world, Patit Suphaphongs said, sending his best wishes to the Vietnamese side for the upcoming tournament.
Earlier, Thailand comfortably cruised through the two-legged playoff against Iraq with an aggregate 11-2 victory.
