Pre-World Cup qualifiers: Vietnam-Jordan friendly match ends in 1-1 draw

Vietnam played out a 1-1 draw with Jordan in a friendly match at Khalid Bin Mohammed Stadium in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on May 31, which was the only friendly for Park Hang-seo’s side before resuming their campaign in the second round of the 2022 World Cup Asian qualifiers.

To enable the coaching staff of the two teams to assess forces and test tactics, the match imposed no limit on the number of substitutes with a maximum of three substitution opportunities.

On the Vietnamese side, Park divided his players into two different squads, with each playing in a half.

Depending on the development of the match, the Korean tactician made necessary adjustments to both test tactical efficiency and grant opportunities to all players (excluding Duy Manh, Dinh Trong, and Minh Vuong, who have just returned from injuries).

Jordan opened the scoring in the 11th minute, only to see their advantage cancelled out 14 minutes later, as the parity was restored for Vietnam owing to an own goal of a Jordanian player.

In the second half, Vietnamese goalkeeper Van Toan brilliantly saved a penalty to keep the final score of the match at 1-1.

After the Jordan friendly, Park Hang-seo will rest all the players for a whole day. As planned, the national team will be back to training on June 2.

Vietnam are currently leading Group G with 11 points from three wins and two draws, two clear of second-placed Malaysia and three above Thailand. The UAE are now in fourth on six points from four games, while Indonesia are standing at bottom with zero points.

The remaining three matchdays of Group G will see Vietnam play Indonesia, Malaysia and the UAE on June 7, 11 and 15, respectively.
