The draw for this year’s largest global futsal event was held on June 1 at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
Accordingly, the 24 teams were drawn into six groups of four. Hosts Lithuania were automatically seeded into Pot 1 and assigned to position A1, while the remaining teams were seeded into their respective pots based on their results in the last five World Cup editions.
Having qualified for the World Cup just once (in 2016), Vietnam were seeded into Pot 4, alongside Morocco, Uzbekistan, Angola, Venezuela and the United States. Meanwhile, Pot 1 included Lithuania, two-time champions Spain, Brazil, reigning champions Argentina, Portugal and Russia.
As a powerhouse in the sport, it is almost certain that Brazil will capture one of Group D’s two direct slots in the knockout round. Vietnam, the Czech Republic and Panama will battle against one another for the remaining slot.

Thailand, the second representative of Southeast Asia in the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup, will be challenged by Portugal, Morocco and Solomon Islands in Group C.
The group stage will be played in a round robin format to determine the top two teams of each group and the four best third-placed teams for the round of 16.
As scheduled, Vietnam will open their Group D campaign with a clash against Brazil on September 13 before taking on Panama and the Czech Republic on September 16 and 19, respectively.
This is the second consecutive time Vietnam have qualified for the Futsal World Cup arena. In their debut at the Colombia World Cup 2016, the Southeast Asian side made it through to the knockout stage as one of the four best third-placed teams.
