Specifically, midfielder Nguyen Trong Hoang has been suspended for the Indonesia clash following his two yellow cards conceded in the previous group meetings with Malaysia (October 10, 2019) and Thailand (November 19, 2019).

Defensive pillar Tran Dinh Trong will also be missing as he has to execute the punishment left from the 2020 AFC U23 Championship.

In addition, goalkeeper Nguyen Van Hoang, defender Nguyen Thanh Binh, and midfielders Ly Cong Hoang Anh and Nguyen Hai Long will be ruled out of tonight’s game due to professional factors.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has decided to change regulations regard squad registration. Instead of having to finalise the 23-man roster before the tournament, teams are allowed to register their squad 90 minutes before the scheduled commencement of each match. This means the Vietnamese players who are missing in the Indonesia game can still be registered for the following matches against Malaysia (on June 11) and the UAE (on June 15).

Vietnam are currently leading Group G with 11 points from five games (three wins and two draws), two clear of the UAE, Thailand and Malaysia, and 10 above bottom-placed Indonesia. In the first leg, Park’s troops comfortably beat Indonesia 3-1 away. With careful preparations, Vietnam are highly favoured to repeat such feat when meeting coach Shin Tae-yong’s side at Dubai’s Al Maktoum Stadium tonight.
