President Phuc commended the national team’s performance, expressing his hope they will continue to confidently head into the next match with the best preparations possible.

The State leader decided to grant a bonus of VND1 billion (over US$43,400) as an encouragement for Park Hang-seo’s side. In addition, the Vietnam Football Federation announced a VND2 billion bonus for the team.

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung also extended congratulations to the Golden Star Warriors.

Early this morning (June 12), forward Nguyen Tien Linh and captain Que Ngoc Hai were on target as the Vietnamese edged past Malaysia 2-1, thereby knocking the Malayan Tigers out of the World Cup qualifying campaign.

This could be seen as a triumph of solidarity and strong will to overcome difficulties. Under Park’s instructions, the players upheld the Vietnamese spirit in a dramatic encounter to bring the joy of victory to the fans. The victory is even more significant as it serves a big source of motivation for the whole nation in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the freshly won three points, Park Hang-seo’s troops are on the verge of making history, as they only need a draw against the UAE in the June 15 match to book their place in the last round of the World Cup qualifiers for the first time ever.
