The only other home favourites to lift the trophy were Henri Leconte and Yannick Noah in 1984 and Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in 2014.

* West Ham United manager David Moyes has signed a new three-year contract after guiding the London side to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League, the club announced on Saturday. Moyes, who took over from Manuel Pellegrini in December 2019 for a second spell, guided the club to safety in the 2019-20 campaign before leading them to the Europa League with a 65-point haul in the most recent season, a club record in the Premier League.

* Scotland manager Steve Clarke said he had "selection headaches all over the pitch" ahead of their Euro 2020 opener against Czech Republic on Monday and one player likely to be uppermost in his thoughts is 20-year-old Billy Gilmour. Clarke has led his team to their first major tournament in 23 years and his side begin their Euro 2020 Group D campaign with arguably their most important match.

* Poland will be hoping to improve on their poor record in opening matches at major tournaments when they take on minnows Slovakia in St. Petersburg on Monday, with a win crucial for both sides ahead of their matches against group favourites Spain. Slovakia defender Milan Skriniar will be tasked with stopping Poland's Robert Lewandowski, as the record-breaking Bayern Munich striker sets out to prove his quality at a major tournament.

* Reigning Olympic champion Mack Horton was the major casualty on day one of the Australian Olympic team swimming trials as he fell just short of qualifying in a scintillating 400 metres freestyle final. The 25-year-old missed the top two finish that would have allowed him to defend his title in Tokyo next month by just 0.65 seconds as young gun Elijah Winnington, 21, swam the fastest time in the world this year in 3:42.65 with Jack McLoughlin in second place.
