Top 10 typical events of Hanoi in 2022

In 2022, the Party Committee, government and people of Hanoi have effectively controlled the COVID-19 epidemic, and supported and promoted production and business. Thanks to that, the capital’s economy recovered strongly, and GRDP growth reached the highest level in the last 10 years. On this occasion, Nhan Dan Newspaper introduces to readers 10 typical events of the Capital in 2022 voted by Hanoi city.

1. Continuing to innovate the leadership method of the Party committees, authorities and the city's political system; focusing on innovation and improving the quality of party members

Party committees, authorities and the political system at all levels promote solidarity and continue to innovate leadership methods in the direction of science, and democracy, close to reality. The city implemented the project on state management decentralisation, authorization in the area and a resolution on state management decentralisation in several socio-economic fields in the area.

2. The Politburo issues Resolution No. 15-NQ/TW on the development of the capital city of Hanoi by 2030, with an eye on 2045.

On May 5, 2022, Politburo issued Resolution 15-NQ/TW, on the development of the capital city of Hanoi by 2030, with an eye on 2045. Under this resolution, the Politburo aims to turn Hanoi into a smart, clean, and safe city, that meets the expectations of becoming the growth engine for the development of the North, the Red River region, and the country's political-administrative-economic-cultural-educational-technological centre.

3. Strong post-pandemic socio-economic recovery with GRDP hitting the 10-year high

In 2022, Hanoi accomplished significant achievements in socio-economic development. The city fulfilled all 22 socio-economic targets, exceeding the expectations in five of the 22 targets. Hanoi's revenues rose 2.7% year-on-year and exceeded the full-year target of 6.8%. In particular, the city's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) grew by 8.89%, the highest in the past ten years.

In addition, Hanoi handed over 2.6 trillion VND to 2.6 million people who had suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. Drastic measures are taken to build Ring Road 4

After a year of preparation, the investment project to build Ring Road No. 4 - Hanoi Capital Region, was approved by the National Assembly in Resolution No. 56/2022/QH15 dated June 16, 2022. Up to now, the whole political system of the city, especially the 7 districts, where the project has passed, has taken drastic measures to clear the construction site and prepare to hand over the site to the project management unit, so that the construction of Ring Road No.4 will start in June 2023.

5. Developing the cultural industry into spearheading the economic sector

Hanoi issued Resolution 09-NQ/TU on February 22, 2022, on the development of the cultural industry in 2020-2025 with a vision to 2045, becoming the first locality in Vietnam to develop a plan for the development of the cultural industry.

The city authorities saw this as a firm stance to seek a balance between cultural conservation and development and improving the population's standard of living. The move was also intended to turn the cultural industry and tourism into key economic activities that carry the capital's millennia-old culture.

The city authorities then estimated investment in cultural and social development activities, focusing on healthcare, education and training, and culture at 49 trillion VND.

In 2022, Hanoi organised numerous cultural and tourism events, such as the Creative Design Festival, the Ao Dai Festival, and the international conference on the preservation of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.

6. Hanoi "shines" with SEA Games 31

At the 31st SEA Games, Hanoi hosted the opening and closing ceremonies and 18 sports. Hanoi athletes greatly contributed to the success of the Vietnamese sports delegation.

Competing in 36 of the 40 medal events, they won 151/446 medals for Vietnam, helping to lift the host nation to the top of the medal table and showcasing the superior qualities of Hanoi's sports sector.

7. With improvement in education and training, Hanoi tops Vietnam in national and international contests

Hanoi had 125 students who won national competitions and 82 medals in international competitions. Contestants from Hanoi also bagged the first prize in the 12th National Performance Art Competition for Children and Students. In 2022, the city also launched a centre for smart educational management that has generated positive impacts on the digital transformation between schools and facilities. Hanoi was also one of the four localities recognised by the Ministry of Education and Training for achieving secondary education at level 3.

8. Hanoi leads all provinces and cities in the number of OCOP products

Since 2019, the city has produced 1,649 products under the One Commune – One Product (OCOP) programme – the most of all 63 provinces and cities. Of which, four are 5-star (the highest rating) and 13 potential 5-star, almost 1,100 products are 4-star, and 534 are 3-star.

By sector, more than 1,070 products come from the food industry, 35 from beverage production, 17 from herb production, 492 from handicrafts, and 34 from the textile and clothing industry.

9. Hanoi named World’s Leading City Break Destination 2022

Hanoi tourism recovered strongly after the pandemic. In 2022, Hanoi welcomed 18.7 million visitors, nearly five times the 2021 figure. The data included 1.5 million international visitors and 17.2 million domestic tourists, 4.3 times more than the previous year. Total tourism expenditure was 60 trillion VND, 5.3 times more than in 2021.

At the World Travel Awards held on November 11, 2022, in Oman, Hanoi was awarded World’s Leading City Break Destination 2022.

10. Security guarantee for nearly 2,000 important events

Hanoi hosted nearly 2,000 key events in 2022. Law enforcement agencies went all out to ensure the security of senior officials and participants in the events, including the SEA 31 Games and The Vietnam International Defence Expo 2022

Meanwhile, Hanoi continued to be the locality that ensured political and social stability, in addition to improving the conditions of the transportation system and ensuring the safety of all domestic and international visitors, marking itself as one of the safest destinations in the world.
