Over 100,000 visitors attend Ao dai Festival in Ho Chi Minh City

Over 100,000 people participated in activities at the Ao dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress) festival, the sixth of its kind, which concluded in Ho Chi Minh City on March 17.

Taking place from March 2 to 17 at many locations accross Ho Chi Minh city, this year's festival featured many rich activities such as the ‘Charming Ao Dai’ competition, a parade of people wearing Ao dai, an online photo contest on Ao dai, programmes to inspire Ao dai for students, and a design drawing competition on Ao dai with the theme "Ao Dai with the City".

H’Hen Niê, Miss Universe Vietnam 2017, was one of 15 ambassadors of the sixth Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival 2019.

In addition, this year’s Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival attracted the participation of 26 designers, 360 tailors, businesses related to Ao dai and also tourism businesses, along with 2,675 contestants participating in competitions under the framework of the festival.

In the festival, there were 5,000 Ao Dai designs and Ao Dai dressmaking materials presented to women, the city’s female workers and children of workers as part of the "Ao Dai for You" programme.

Through its six organisations, the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival has affirmed that the event is the biggest Ao Dai festival in Vietnam, a prominent cultural and tourist event of the Ho Chi Minh City which honours the beauty of traditional costumes, contributes to preserving and promoting national cultural identity, as well as the destination of Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular to domestic and foreign tourists.
