The ceremony was attended by Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC's Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai.

This year’s event aims to honour the value of the cultural heritage and vigorous vitality of the ethnic groups on the Dong Van Stone Plateau, and to promote, build up the brand, and enhance the position and image of Ha Giang to domestic and international friends.

On the occasion, not only could visitors admire the beautiful buckwheat flower fields but they could also immerse themselves in the cultural, artistic and culinary activities of the ethnic minorities.

Buckwheat (scientifically known as Fagopyrum Esculentum) is a plant with clusters of small pinkish white flowers and edible triangular seeds.

H’Mong ethnic residents grow two crops of Tam giac mach every year, as it also blooms between April and May. The flowers are sensitive to sunlight, turning from white in the early morning to pink in the afternoon.

Buckwheat creates a striking image when blossoming, making it a popular tourist attraction in Ha Giang, as well as in neighbouring mountainous areas such as Lao Cai Province.
