‘Yao’ leaf powder soup: A traditional Tet dish of Ede ethnic people

Ede ethnic people have their own traditional dishes for Tet holiday, which include grilled fish, bitter eggplant with ants, papaya with ants, rice, and yao leaf (a wild plant in the Central Highlands region) powder soup.

Of which, Yao leaf soup is an indispensable dish for Tet celebrations.

Yao leaf powder soup’s ingredients include bones, dried bitter eggplants, green papaya, rice, banana flowers and yao leaf powder.

Yao leaves are pounded, along with rice powder, to create the yao powder mixture.

Before adding yao leaf powder, bones are stir-fried with other ingredients and then poured into water.

Yao leaf powder soup’s flavour is rich due to the various ingredients added.
