Expo 2020 Dubai: A great forum to promote Vietnam’s image to the world

The World Expo 2020 Dubai kicked off on September 30 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Vietnamese delegation at the event was led by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong.

Under the banner "Connecting Minds and Creating the Future", the event conveyed a message about the power of cooperation between cultures, nations and regions to work out sustainable solutions to global problems.

The opening ceremony took place at Al Wasl Square with the participation of more than 1,000 artists, who staged a spectacular party of music and performing arts.

Stars headlining the opening ceremony included Italian tenor singer Andrea Bocelli, American singer and actress Andra Day, British singer Ellie Goulding, Chinese pianist Lang Lang, Saudi singer Mohammed Abdu, and Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo.

Scheduled to last for 6 months from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, the expo is expected to attract about 25 million visitors from all over the world to seek business networking opportunities and participate in business meetings.

Covering a total area of 4.38 s.q.km, the expo village will offer a venue for 192 participating countries to introduce their achievements in economy, culture, science and technology along with their traditional arts and cuisine.

Following the opening ceremony, the Vietnam Exhibition House is scheduled to be inaugurated on October 1, introducing Vietnam’s traditional quintessence and innovation achievements to international friends and contributing to promoting its image and opening up cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and the Middle East as well as the world in general.

Prominent activities to be held at the Vietnam Exhibition House include a display of Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese long dress) from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022; an ASEAN Day on December 13, 2021; a Vietnamese Coffee Week on November 1, 2022; and a water puppet show from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.

Joining the expo, Vietnam aims to fulfil its political commitments with the host country, while demonstrating its responsibility as a member of the Bureau International des Exposition (BIE).

With a history of 170 years, the World Expo is among the world’s oldest and largest events, after only the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup. It has provided a platform to showcase the greatest innovations that are shaping the world today.
