Hoi An authorities reject cable project over Thu Bon River

The authorities of Hoi An city in Quang Nam province have rejected a project proposal for building a cable car over the Thu Bon river, which would require an estimated investment of VND2.1 trillion (US$92.4 million), announced Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of Hoi An city People’s Committee.

The declaration was made in response to reports that a firm proposed a 7 kilometre-long cable car in the ancient town, which has evoked much public concern over recent days.

Earlier, the Quang Nam-based NVN Group made a proposal to Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee to put a three-stop Nam Hoi An cable system in Hoi An city.

The Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee then issued a document to the Hoi An city People’s Committee on June 5 asking for collaboration with Duy Xuyen district authorities and relevant departments, sectors and units to consider the request.

“After taking time to consider the proposal, Hoi An city leaders eventually said no to the project and we will submit detailed documents to the higher-level leadership,” Son reported.
