The opening ceremony featured songs, dances and short plays praising the natural beauty, culture, and history of Ninh Binh province as well as its encouraging achievements during the integration and development process.

Addressing the opening, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that the festival is being held as part a series of activities marking the 1050th anniversary of the Dai Co Viet state, the first feudal state of Vietnam.

The event aimed to promote Ninh Binh’s cultural and tourism potential to visitors while raising public responsibility in forming and furthering Vietnamese culture and contributing to socio-economic development.

A wide range of activities will be held during the festival, including an exhibition featuring propaganda posters on protecting environment for culture, sports and tourism development, an amateur ‘cheo’ (traditional opera) contest, a puppetry competition, and a photo exhibition, plus various sporting events.

At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam presented the Prime Minister’s decision to recognise a royal bed, inside the temple worshiping King Dinh Tien Hoang, as a national treasure to the authorities of Ninh Binh province.

The antique, dating from the 17th century, is being preserved at the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital historical relic site in Ninh Binh.
