The event was attended by Politburo members: Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh and Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Education Vo Van Thuong.
Tens of thousands of people from all regions of the country flocked to join the festival
The festival opened with an incense and flower offering ceremony in memory of King Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue and the Tay Son soldiers.
The festival officially opened at 8pm on February 8 at Quang Trung Museum, Phong Phu town, Tay Son disitrict, Binh Dinh province.
A series of cultural, artistic and sports activities, and martial art performances took place during the festival.
In the early spring of 1789, Nguyen Hue, who was later proclaimed Emperor Quang Trung, led his guerrillas from Hue imperial palace to Hanoi, which was then occupied by the Qing army.
He launched a surprise attack and defeated more than 29,000 Qing soldiers during a five-day Lunar New Year battle.
On the same day, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh presented 50 gifts and 50 bikes to poor households and poor students at Vinh An commune, Tay Son district, Binh Binh province.
