Rhododendrons blooming on top of Fansipan

Every spring, from the end of February to May, the rhododendron trees clinging to the cliff all sprout flower buds. The colourful rhododendron clusters cover the mountains with enchanting red, purple, white, pink, and gold colours.

In the past, to enjoy the rhododendron flowers blooming in Hoang Lien Son forest, the only way was to climb and follow the dangerous forest routes to the higher areas to look at the colourful carpets of rhododendrons amidst the green slopes below. Nowadays, since the launch of a cable car system to Fansipan, visitors can fly up to admire the beauty of rhododendrons.

Dubbed the "rhododendron kingdom", Hoang Lien Son forest is home to 40 different rhododendron species with multiple colours and shapes. The cable car route leading to Fansipan Peak is also a forest road with many of the most beautiful ancient rhododendron trees.

The rhododendron forest is concentrated from a height of nearly 2,000 m up to Fansipan at 3,143 metres. When the flowers bloom, from the cable car cabins, visitors are able to see various beautiful golden or bright red blossoms.

Thousands of hundreds of aged rhododendron roots stretching from a height of 2,000 m to Fansipan have been collected and cultivated at Sun World Fansipan Legend tourist complex.

In order to help visitors enjoy all the beauty of the precious flowers in Fansipan, a festival dedicated to rhododendrons is being held with various special cultural activities of the Northwest region.
