Vietnam, Japan cooperate to tap tourism potential

Japan is a key market of Vietnam’s tourism and tourist exchanges between the two countries may exceed the set target of 1.5 million visitors by 2020.

Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan Lam Thanh Phuong made the statement at a conference to promote the tourism of Vietnam and Da Nang held by Da Nang City Department of Tourism in Tokyo on May 14.

In recent years, Vietnam has become one of the most important partners of Japanese tourism, she said, adding that the total number of tourist arrivals between the two countries has surpassed one million since 2017.

Last year, the figure was 1.2 million, of which the number of Japanese tourists to Vietnam was 826,000 and the number of Vietnamese tourists to Japan was 390,000, she said.

According to her, in the near future, tourism cooperation between the two countries will continue to develop in the context of the fine relations and favourable travel conditions, especially with more direct flights between the two countries.

For his part, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Tourism Department Nguyen Xuan Binh said that Da Nang is focusing on developing diverse tourism products in order to attract tourists from key markets, including Japan.
