Vietnam welcomes nearly 7.3 million international visitors in first five months

The General Statistics Office on May 29 announced that Vietnam welcomed and served nearly 7.3 million international visitors in the first five months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 8.8%.

The figures affirmed that Vietnam continued to be an attractive destination for international tourists.

Accordingly, arrivals by air increased 6.3% compared to the same period in 2018, while those arriving by land and sea rose 23.7% and 17.5%, respectively.

In May alone, the number of foreign visitors to the country reached over 1.3 million, up 14.3% over the same period last year.

Over the past five months, tourists from Asia were estimated at 5.6 million, accounting for 76.8% of the total number of international visitors, meaning​ a year-on-year increase of 9.9%.

The number of European arrivals rose by 5.9% year-on-year, while those from America, Oceania and Africa were up 4.9%,1.5% and 9.2%, respectively.

Vietnam is also projected to receive 18 million foreign visitors and serve 85 million domestic tourists in 2019, earning total revenue of over VND700 trillion.
