Accordingly, 312 tour operators participated in the survey on 10 Japanese tourists’ favourite destinations during the summer of 2019. The results show that Asia dominates with eight destinations in the list.

Especially, the Southeast Asia region has a significant improvement when three countries including Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore rank among the top five favorite destinations.

Hawaii claimed to the throne of Taiwan (China) when it became the most popular tourist destination for Japanese people this summer. Thailand continued to hold third position.

Singapore and Vietnam increased by one rank compared to 2018, ranking fourth and fifth in 2019’s list, respectively.

Meanwhile, Vietnam's Ha Long Bay in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh is one of the most popular attractions in all over Asia, according to the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post (SCMP).

The newspaper said the UNESCO World Heritage Site came in fifth among the top 10 most popular Asian gems, which was topped by the Great Wall of China.

Around 5.2 million foreigners visited Ha Long Bay last year, up 22 percent from a year ago, accounting for 30 percent of the 15.6 million foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam.

The boom in foreign tourists in Ha Long Bay is attributed to major infrastructural improvements that have made it easier for foreigners to visit the world-famous bay, according to SCMP.
