The opening ceremony was attended by members of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee: National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu; and Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Committee Vo Van Phuong; along with Ha Giang Province’s leaders.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu emphasised that in the difficult terrain and harsh nature, Ha Giang Province knows how to exploit these difficulties into development opportunities, which is the key economic tourism option. In the western districts of Ha Giang Province, the local people have created terraced fields which not only contribute to food stability but also create a unique tourism product during the ripe rice season.

He also suggested that the province should clearly identify its potentials and advantages and the relationship with other provinces in the region, across the country and in other countries. In particular, it is necessary to focus on a number of strengths, including tourism and the development of medicinal plants.

In the field of tourism, the province needs to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values of ethnic communities, he added. He also urged the province to well implement the ethnic policies, take care of the lives of people in difficult areas, and firmly protect the national sovereignty of the border.

On the occasion, the handmade silver sculpture industry of Nung ethnic people at Po Ly Ngai Commune, Hoang Su Phi District, received the decision from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to recognise it as a national intangible cultural heritage.

The programme, which runs until September 25, features many activities such as a beauty contest, a paragliding contest, terrain racing; cultural activities, and traditional festivals of ethnic communities in Hoang Su Phi district.
