According to Pham Thi Thanh Nhan, head of the district’s medical office, the model is being implemented from September to December this year at selected temples, shrines, pagodas, museums, churches, theatres, restaurants, and hotels with three-star status and above across the district.

The list includes many popular sites that attract numerous holiday-makers, such as Ngoc Son Temple, Quan Su Pagoda, the Vietnam National Museum of History, the Hanoi Opera House, the St. Joseph's Cathedral, and Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre.

The campaign aims to provide visitors with a smoke-free tourism environment and prevent them from experiencing the negative impacts of cigarette smoke on health, thus allowing them to enjoy their stay in Hanoi.

Earlier in 2017, the district People’s Committee launched a project on ensuring food safety and promoting smoke-free environments at hotels and restaurants in the 2017-2018 period.

After two years of its implementation, the project has attracted the participation of 181 out of 311 hotels and restaurants in the area, with 109 of them being recognised as no-smoke facilities.
