The information was released at a press conference held in Hanoi on December 17.

The Festival, themed “Cultural Heritage with integration and development – Always a New Hue”, will mark the 20th year for the first international cultural and arts event in the country.

In addition to domestic artists, the Festival will see the participation of 20 international art troupes, including the Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, China, Israel, France, Belgium, Denmark and Russia.

The festival will feature six major programmes, with the highlight being the opening ceremony April 1, which honour traditional and contemporary cultural identities of Vietnam, particularly the ancient capital city of Hue.

Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional long dresses) shows, a street carnival and a programme honouring the culinary culture of Hue City, along with an art programme “Capital City of Civilisation” and a performance of compositions by famous musician Trinh Cong Son, are expected to attract a large number of audience members and visitors.

A wide variety of other cultural and community activities will be held during the six-day festival, such as a Kite Festival, a Science Festival, a Beer Festival, and an international trade fair.

Notably, the “ASEAN night’ will be a performance of the cultural features of the Southeast Asian countries through traditional costumes, fashion and music.

In addition, the Hue Festival 2020 will be associated with activities promoting the environmental protection, with the encouragement of “saying no’ to disposable plastic products.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu said that this will be an opportunity to promote the culture of Vietnam, particularly Hue City, as well as to enhance the exchange between the unique cultures in the region and the world.
