Hanoi welcomes 81,000 visitors on New Year’s Day

Hanoi capital city hosted more than 81,000 visitors on New Year's Day 2020, up 8.9% as compared to the same day in 2019, according to the city’s Tourism Department.

Of the sum, the foreign arrivals and domestic travellers were estimated at around 18,300 and 63,000, a year-on-year increase of 8% and 9.2%, respectively. Tourism revenue in the city reached VND163 billion (US$7 million) at the same time.

Hanoi’s key tourism markets include China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Malaysia, the US, the UK, Germany, France and Australia.

The most-visited attractions in Hanoi on New Year’s Day were Hoan Kiem lake, the Temple of Literature, and Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

Assorted activities and programmes were held across the city to welcome New Year 2020, such as a rural market at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, musical countdown parties at Hoan Kiem Lake, and a colourful ‘Happy New Year’ programme at West Lake Water Park.

The city’s hospitality sector is now preparing for the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, when a large number of holiday makers will flock to Hanoi to experience traditional cultural activities. During the nine-day holiday for the 2019 Tet, Hanoi greeted 514,000 vacationers.
