Upland market recreated in Hanoi to welcome new year

A cultural space with the theme "Upland market to welcome spring 2021" will take place in the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Dong Mo Tourism Area in Son Tay Town, Hanoi, from December 31, 2020 to January 3, 2021.

The space will re-enact an upland periodic market, where goods are bought, sold and traded; and meeting, exchange and cultural activities of ethnic minorities in the Northern are organised. The event will introduce cultural features, customs of the people, and experience activities at the "Common House".

The event will feature the participation of 16 ethnic minorities Nung, Tay, Dao, Mong, Muong, Thai, Kho Mu, O Du, Ta Oi, Ba Na, Xo Dang, Co Tu, Gia Rai, RagLai, Ede, Khmer, creating a vivid "picture" of the cultural beauty of the ethnic groups.

The highlights of event will be the introduction of embroidery and pattern decoration on fabric by the Red Dao group in Bac Kan Province; the craft of embroidery of women of Thai ethnic group, in Son La Province; traditional knitting craft of the ethnic groups in the provinces of Lai Chau, Bac Kan and Dien Bien; Cam Muong festivals of the Lu ethnic group in Lai Chau Province; and Khu Su Cha of the Ha Nhi people in Dien Bien Province.

In addition, under the framework of the event, an art space "Village and flowers"; traditional culinary introduction space; space for displaying pictures of "Spring Fair"; folk dance programme of ethnic communities in the northern uplands market space; and booths introducing typical products such as Vietnamese noodles, traditional leaf yeast, sticky rice, Ba Be fragrant zucchini, Na Ri shiitake mushrooms, and wild honey will be organised.
