According to the Chairman of Van Yen District People’s Committee Ha Duc An, the complex, which has a total area of nearly 30 hectares, was created by 70 households of H’Mong ethnic people in the locality in 1997.

The terraced fields have many characteristics similar to the Mu Cang Chai terraced paddy field complex in the same province which has been recognised as a special national relic site.

Local authorities have encouraged people to reclaim land but preserve the landscape and environment as suitable for their living conditions.

The Van Yen District People’s Committee will propose measures to the relevant agencies to help the locals maintain production while developing tourism activities in the near future.
