Con Dao Museum opens to public

Nhan Dan Online – The Con Dao Museum was inaugurated in the Con Dao island district, southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on September 6.

Construction of the museum started in December 2009 and it cost roughly VND62 billion (US$3 million), VND40 billion of which was funded by Hanoi authorities and people while the remaining was funded from the provincial budget.

Nearly 2,000 exhibits are on display at the museum including images, artifacts and documents which feature themes of Con Dao’s nature and its people, the hell on earth and today’s Con Dao.

The museum is expected to raise awareness of local people and tourists of historical values and heroic sacrifice of Vietnam soldiers on this island during the struggle for national independence.
