New Year flag salute ceremony held at nation’s easternmost mainland point

A national flag salute ceremony was held on January 1 in the country’s easternmost mainland point of Mui Dien, Phu Yen province, where the first sunlight is welcomed in the country.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions, heavy rain and wind, many officers and soldiers, people and tourists participated in the New Year event.

Huynh Ngoc from Tuy Hoa city of Phu Yen, said “I am very proud to sing the national anthem on the first day of the New Year”.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Toan, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, showed his delight to visit Mui Dien, a famous tourist attraction of Phu Yen on the first day of 2019 and join the special ceremony for the first time.

The national flag saluting is an annual event held by the People’s Committee of Phu Yen as part of their patriotism education activities. On the occasion, Phu Yen also held a ceremony to welcome the first 100 tourists to Bai Mon-Mui Dien national tourist site.

Phan Dinh Phung, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said this year, the province will hold various cultural and artistic events to mark the 30th anniversary of its re-establishment and lure more tourists.

In 2018, Phu Yen tourism thrived with rising numbers of visitors. In 2018, the province welcomed 1.6 million tourists.
