Prime Minister attends 7th GMS Summit

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the seventh Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit which was held virtually on September 9 at the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

Speaking at the event, the Vietnamese PM emphasised the strategic role of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) in the international integration process and economic growth of Asia.

He also said that the GMS’s cooperation outcomes have effectively supported the building of the ASEAN Community, shaping the regional architecture with ASEAN at the centre while promoting the ASEAN-China strategic partnership.

At the end of the meeting, they adopted a joint statement and agreed to hold the 8th GMS Summit in China in 2024.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue paid trip to Europe to attend the fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (WCSP5) in Austria and to visit the European Parliament, Belgium and Finland from September 5-11.

During his tour, the NA leader participated in over 70 activities. One of the focuses of the trip was vaccine diplomacy along with cooperation against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NA Chairman Hue’s activities also helped deepen friendship and accelerate cooperation between Vietnam and other countries in the fields of politics, economy, trade, investment, science and technology, etc.

Vietnam holds upbeat growth potential despite COVID-19: VEIL

Vietnam’s first half growth demonstrates the underlying strength of the economy, which will provide a platform for the country's growth once its new COVID-19 outbreaks are contained, said Stanley Chou, Chair of the Vietnam Enterprise Investments Limited (VEIL).

The economy remained resilient in the first half of 2021, posting GDP growth of 5.6%, despite being negatively affected by two new waves of the virus.

The key driver in Vietnam's economic performance for the first six months was manufacturing, which expanded by 8.4% year-on-year.

PM agrees on pilot plan to welcome foreign tourists to Phu Quoc Island

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has basically agreed with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's proposal on a pilot plan to welcome international tourists with vaccine passports to the resort island of Phu Quoc, in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, for six months beginning from October.

In a document, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam asked the provincial People’s Committee to coordinate with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other relevant agencies to collect opinions from organisations, associations and businesses in order to develop and issue a specific plan for the implementation.

Vietnam approves Hayat-Vax COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use

The Ministry of Health has just conditionally approved a COVID-19 vaccine called Hayat-Vax for urgent use in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic, making it the 7th COVID-19 vaccine to be urgently approved in Vietnam.

Hayat-Vax vaccine is a suspension injection. Each 0.5 ml dose contains 6.5 units of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 antigen (vero cells).

The vaccine has been semi-finished by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd. of the China National Biotec Group Company Limited and packaged and delivered by Julphar (Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Vietnamese photographer Huynh Ha won a gold medal in the portrait awards for a photo titled “Cai nhin” (A Look) at the 11th International Photo Contest 2021 hosted by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA).

Furthermore, Ha's other entry, “Cong viec lang tham” (silent work), was given a certificate of honourable mention in the portrait awards alongside two Vietnamese photographers, Phan Trong Dat and Phan Vu Trong, for their artworks “Giai nhiet” (staying cool) and “Niem tin” (trust), the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) reported.

Vietnam finalises squad for 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup

Vietnam head coach Pham Minh Giang has named his 16-man roster for the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup campaign in Lithuania, including four 2016 World Cup participants: Tran Van Vu, Nguyen Minh Tri, Le Duc Nam and Pham Duc Hoa.

Giang’s troops will kick-start their 2021 World Cup campaign with an opening Group match against five-time champions Brazil on September 13 (local time).

Vietnam has been named among the top 10 countries in terms of cross-border data transfer in the past decade.

Head of the Institute for Policy Studies and Media Development (IPS) Nguyen Quang Dong cited data from Nikkei Asia financial newspaper in a recent webinar focusing on cross-border data transfer and privacy protection held by the IPS.
