NA Chairman concludes Europe tour
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue arrived in Hanoi on September 12, concluding his trip to Europe to attend the fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (WCSP5) in Austria and visit to the European Parliament, Belgium and Finland from September 5-11.
While there, the top lawmaker had over 70 activities. The trip affirmed the foreign policy and advocate of Vietnam’s Party and State; manifested the country’s proactiveness, activeness and responsibility; and raised its position. Among the focuses of the trip were vaccine diplomacy as well as cooperation against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bilateral contacts within the framework of the conference helped consolidate and strengthen foreign relations between Vietnam and other countries. NA Chairman Hue’s activities also helped deepen friendship and accelerate cooperation between Vietnam and other countries in the fields of politics, economy, trade, investment, science and technology, among others.
Nano Covax’s clinal trial dossier meets requirements

The dossier of the home-grown vaccine candidate Nano Covax’s clinical trials has basically met the requirements, according to an assessment of the National Ethics Council for Biomedical Research, which concluded a meeting of the council on September 18.
Earlier, the council asked the producer Nanogen to provide more data on the vaccine’s safety on all volunteers who had been given at least one dose, its generation of immune response, as well as an explanation of serious adverse incidents.
With regards to immunogenicity, the report is updated with data on the immune response to new variants, such as the now prevalent Delta variant.
Based on medical literature data, Nano Covax has an efficacy rate of at least 50% as recommended by the World Health Organisation.
Vietnam becomes largest tuna exporter of Israel
The export value of Vietnamese tuna exports to the Israeli market by mid-August jumped by 34% to nearly US$25 million compared to the same period last year, or accounted for 5.6% of the total tuna export value, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Israel continues to be Vietnam’s third-largest single tuna export market, behind the US and Italy.
According to VASEP, tuna export turnover was estimated at over US$410 million in seven months of this year, up 21% annually. Vietnam’s major importers include the US, Europe, Israel, Canada and Japan. The US was the largest importer with a value of over US$170 million.
According to statistics released by the International Trade Centre (ITC), the first half of the year saw Vietnam surpass Thailand to become Israel’s largest tuna supplier, accounting for roughly 31% of their overall import value.
Two Vietnam’s biosphere reserves earn UNESCO recognition

Two biosphere reserves Nui Chua, in the central province of Ninh Thuan, and Kon Ha Nung, in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, have earned UNESCO recognition.
They were among 22 reserves across the world voted at a session of the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme (CIC-MAB), which is being held in Nigeria from September 13-17.
Both the Nui Chua and Kon Ha Nung biosphere reserves contain rich and unique cultural heritage treasures with many outstanding features of tangible and intangible cultural values of the local ethnic minority groups.
With the recognition, Vietnam has 11 biosphere reserves, becoming one of the countries with the largest number of UNESCO-recognised biosphere reserves.
Two Vietnamese contestants vie for Miss Grand Slam 2020
Two Vietnamese contestants have been named in the list of 42 candidates for Miss Grand Slam 2020, according to Global Beauties, an online source of reliable pageant-related information and news.
They are winner of Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 Nguyen Tran Khanh Van and second runner-up of Miss Vietnam 2020 Nguyen Le Ngoc Thao.
Thao entered the Top 20 of the Miss Grand International 2020 held in Thailand, while Van received the highest number of votes from fans to enter the Top 21 of the Miss Universe 2020 in the US after the final round.
Global Beauties will announce the Top 20 of Miss Grand Slam 2020 following assessments of an international panel of judges.
First Vietnamese student among 50 finalists of Global Student Prize 2021

Dong Ngoc Ha, a biological science student at the Hanoi University of Science (Vietnam National University), has been named among the Top 50 Finalists for the Global Student Prize 2021.
The finalists shortlisted for this year’s prize have been selected from over 3,500 nominations and applications from 94 countries and territories around the world. The winner is due to be announced at an awards ceremony to be held in Paris, France, in November and will receive a cash prize of US$100,000.
Candidates who apply for the Global Student Prize are assessed on a range of criteria, including their academic achievements, influence on their peers, and how they made a difference within their local communities.
Hoi An enters top 15 cities in Asia
The ancient port city of Hoi An in the central province of Quang Nam has entered the Top 15 cities in Asia selected by Travel+Leisure’s World's Best Awards 2021.
Hoi An was placed at the 13th position with total scores of 86.98. The ancient city is a heaven for photography and cuisine lovers. In 1999, the small city was recognised by the UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site. It has been honoured by Travel+Leisure many times in its list of world top cities in 2019, 10 best cities in Asia in 2018, and 50 best cities to visit in 2019.
This year's World's Best Awards survey was open for voting January 11 through May 10, 2021, as destinations around the world were gradually lifting COVID-19 restrictions. The cities’ rating is based on travellers’ assessment on sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and overall value.
Vietnam advance to next round of 2021 Futsal World Cup

Vietnam have earned a berth at the Round of 16 of the ongoing 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania, after a 1-1 draw with Czech Republic on September 19.
Both teams went into the match tied on three points, but Vietnam started the match on the backfoot as the Czech Republic came close to scoring.
Vietnam also had their fair share of chances but Nguyen Minh Tri and Vu Duc Tung both missed opportunities and the score remained 0-0 going into the end of the first half.
It was the same scenario after the restart with the Czechs dominating play, but Vietnam broke the deadlock against the run of play in the 35th minute through Chau Doan Phat. The lead, however, only lasted for seconds as the Czech Republic equalised through Lukas Resetar's strike.
Vietnam finished third in Group D - with four points - but advanced to the next round as one of the best third-placed finishers. They will play Russian players in the Round of 16.
Vietnam win berth for 2022 Davis Cup World Group II playoffs
Vietnamese tennis players have won a ticket to the 2022 Davis Cup World Group II playoffs after beating Malaysia 2-0 at the 2021 Group III playoff round in Asia/Oceania, according to the Vietnam Tennis Federation (VTF).
During the Group III playoffs, held in Jordan from September 14-18, the four-member team faced eight rivals of Hong Kong (China), Syria, Sri Lanka, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Pacific Oceania and Malaysia.
Vietnam’s decisive victory against Malaysia was brought about by Ly Hoang Nam and Trinh Linh Giang.
The World Group II play-offs are scheduled to take place in March of next year.
