Party Central Committee’s fourth session wraps up

The fourth plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee concluded on October 7, completing the entirety of its working programme after more than three days.

At this session, the Party Central Committee focused on discussing COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control and the viewpoints and policies on this work in the new situation; socio-economic situation in 2021 and socio-economic development plan in 2022; the implementation of the state budget in 2021, the state budget estimate in 2022 and the financial-state budget plan for 2022 - 2024; and the policy on delaying the implementation of salary policy reform under Resolution No. 27-NQ/TW of the 7th Plenum of the 12th Party Central Committee.

The plenum reached consensus in issuing new regulations on things that Party members are not allowed to do, which will serve as an important basis to handle violations by officials and Party members, and also considered several other important issues.

A Vietnamese stall at the Mechanical Components & Materials Technology Expo (M-Tech) in Japan’s Osaka Prefecture attracted numerous visitors who sought cooperation opportunities.

The stall introduced products made by the Viet Au Engineering Joint Stock Company. This year, due to COVID-19, a large number of Vietnamese firms were unable to attend the annual event – one of the largest of its kind in Japan. M-Tech concluded on October 8.

Ta Minh Duc from the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan said in recent times, with support from the Vietnamese trade office in Japan, many Vietnamese companies have had the chance to join expos to introduce their products and seek partnerships.

Vietnamese 5th graders achieve good results in Southeast Asia

Vietnamese 5th graders achieved the highest rank in terms of learning outcome assessment in the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM) for the 2018-2021 period, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

The SEA-PLM is a regional programme to assess the learning outcomes of Grade 5 students towards informing policy-making and ensuring that all children achieve meaningful learning outcomes.

About 30,000 students from six countries of Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam participated in the first assessment round of SEA-PLM, which was implemented in 2019.

This first round focused on the 5th grade students and on three learning domains of reading, writing and mathematics.

The Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) held a ceremony on October 9 to honour the 76 leading Vietnamese information, communication and technology (ICT) businesses in Vietnam in 2021.

The winning firms stood out against 194 nominations from 169 businesses operating in 18 ICT fields in Vietnam.

The 76 businesses posted total revenue of VND186.694 trillion (US$8.054 billion), accounting for more than 60.74% of the total revenue of the ICT and software industry in 2020.

Google Safety Centre for Vietnamese launched

Google in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Centre has launched the Google Safety Centre and the Safer Programme with Google for Vietnamese users.

Google Safety Centre's website (at https://safety.google/intl/vi/) informs users about ways to keep personal information private and safe, and give them control. It also provides security tips to keep users safe whenever they're online, not just on Google products.

To help families better manage their children's online learning and entertainment, the centre offers resources to teach kids about digital citizenship and safety, and tools to help build healthy habits when using digital devices.

The Safer with Google programme aims to build a foundation of knowledge base and raise awareness among Internet users. The content from the programme will be useful to internet users of all ages in Vietnam.

Vietnamese children in Australia hold concerts to raise funds for COVID-19 fight at home

Vietnamese children in Sydney have raised AUD7,532 (US$5,505) by holding a series of concerts to support COVID-19 prevention and control activities in Ho Chi Minh City and pandemic-hit people in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak.

Khoi Anh, the mother of two children who perform at the concert, said that her family has kept a close watch on COVID-19 developments in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City and wish to do something to ease the difficulties faced by pandemic-hit people, especially children.

Through the concerts, she hopes to nurture her children’s sense of sympathy with other people’s difficulties and their willingness to support the needy, while growing closer to the homeland.

Vietnam score ‘Goal of the Tournament’ at Futsal World Cup 2021

The goal scored by Nguyen Van Hieu in the nail-biting 3-2 victory over Panama has been named ‘Goal of the Tournament’ at the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021.

In the 26th minute of the match on September 16, Hieu delivered an exceptional personal display, leading the ball from the midfield through three Panama players and goalie Hernandez before finishing from a narrow angle to put Vietnam 3-2 in front. The victory has opened the chance for Vietnam to advance to the Round of 16.

In a winner-announcement post on its official Facebook page on October 5, the FIFA page described Hieu's goal as “a sublime solo effort.”

Earlier, it was dubbed the ‘Goal of the Group Stage’.

In addition, Hieu has been honoured amongst the five outstanding young players of the tournament for the first time.
