PM chairs online conference to review COVID-19 prevention and control

Pandemic prevention and control policies must be unified nationwide, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told an online conference with the Steering Committees for COVID-19 Prevention and Control of 63 provinces and cities on October 17.

According to the PM, the COVID-19 prevention and control work is unprecedented and related polices have been implemented, and supplemented and perfected at the same time.

Based on the outcomes of this meeting, the Government and the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control will make adjustments and improvements to implement safe and flexible adaptation, effectively control the pandemic, and recover and promote socio-economic development more efficiently, stated Chinh, who is head of the national steering committee.

NA Standing Committee’s fourth session opens

The 15th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee held its fourth session in Hanoi, under the chair of NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

After three and a half days of sitting, the committee completed the agenda and reached consensus on contents that are expected to submit to the legislature’s second session scheduled to begin on October 20.

The NA Chairman said that all reports, proposals and verification reports have been carefully prepared and the concerned agencies have made additional contributions in many aspects which were considered and approved with high consensus.

IMF sees Vietnam’s growth at 3.8% in 2021

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has predicted that Vietnam’s economy will expand by 3.8% this year, a higher rate than that of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines or Thailand.

In ASEAN, Singapore will be the best performing economy, projected to grow by 6% in 2021, according to the recently released World Economic Outlook report.

Growth in Asia is expected to reach 6.5%, with China’s GDP expanding by 8%, compared to a contraction of 2.3% in 2020.

Vietnamese scientist awarded silver medal of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus

Ambassador of Belarus to Vietnam Vladimir Goshin on October 15 presented the Silver Medal of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) to Professor Chau Van Minh, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), in recognition of his outstanding achievements in science.

The Ambassador affirmed that Professor Minh is a great scientist who has actively and consistently supported the cooperation between Vietnam and Belarus. The awarding of the medal to Minh showed the appreciation of the Belarus academy for the scientific research work of the professor in particular and the VAST in general.

Hanoi assessed as “green zone”: City Centre for Disease Control

Hanoi is now at Level 1 in COVID-19 prevention and control, which means Hanoi is a “green zone” with the low pandemic risk and in the “new normal” status, according to the municipal Centre for Disease Control (CDC).

In the city, over the past two weeks, only four cases have been detected in the community, including one in Hang Trong ward of Hoan Kiem district and three in La Khe ward of Ha Dong district.

To date, up to 98% of the local residents aged 18 and above have been given at least one shot of COVID-19 vaccine.

Vietnamese instrumentalist Le Giang shared the stage with artists from the Middle East at a concert which took place on October 12 at the ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The event was the first concert held as part of the Jalsat Nights music series, being held from October 2021 to March 2022 to introduce the music of both the UAE and countries around the world.

Vietnamese Innovation Network in Europe debuts

The Vietnamese Innovation Network in Europe (VINEU) was launched at a ceremony held at the Embassy of Vietnam in Germany and via videoconference on October 16.

The establishment of VINEU will offer a platform to intellectuals and scientists in Europe to share knowledge and experience in science and technology, thereby contributing to innovation and socio-economic development in Vietnam.

Vietnam beaten 1-3 by Oman in World Cup qualifiers

Vietnam squandered a one-goal lead to concede a 1-3 defeat against Oman on Matchday 4 of Group B in the final round of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Asian Qualifiers.

Striker Nguyen Tien Linh got the Golden Star Warriors off the mark late in the first half, but three goals by Issam (45’+2), Mohsin Al-Khaldi (48’), and Salaah (penalty, 64’) gifted the home side their second win in the campaign.

Vietnam will next return home to host Japan on Matchday 5 on November 11.
