President pays official visit to Switzerland and Russia

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation paid official visits to Switzerland, from November 25-29, and Russia, from November 29-December 2, at the invitations of Swiss President Guy Parmelin and Russian President Vladimir Putin, respectively.

In Switzerland, the two sides reached high consensus on measures to bolster their ties both bilaterally and multilaterally, while sharing views on strategic issues in the region and the world, including the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and maritime security and safety in the East Sea/South China Sea in accordance with international law.

During his visit to Russia, the President met with all the top leaders of Russia, including President Vladimir Putin, PM Mikhail Mishustin, the Chairman of the Russian Duma, the Speaker of the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.

Following a four-hour talk between the two Presidents, a joint statement on the vision of the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership by 2030 was issued, reflecting the high determination of both sides in opening a new development period in bilateral cooperation across all fields.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and delivered a keynote speech at the opening of the ASEAN High-Level Forum on Sub-Regional Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth on November 30.

The forum, the first of its kind, provided ASEAN member states and their partners, regional and international organisations and the business community with a chance to discuss opportunities, challenges, potentials, and orientations to promoting sub-regional development cooperation.

Participants at the event suggested accelerating connectivity, promoting global integration and green growth, using and managing natural resources sustainably, responding to disasters and climate change, pushing digital transformation, developing human resources, and bolstering tourism.

PM chairs first meeting of National Committee on Digital Transformation

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the first meeting of the National Committee on Digital Transformation via videoconference on November 30.

The PM, who is chairman of the committee, said the debut of the committee is meant to realise the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress regarding digital transformation, in the context that digital transformation is becoming a common trend of the world and an objective requirement of national development.

He instructed ministries and agencies to build decrees related to digital transformation, including electronic identification to protect personal data, regulations on the management and operation of the national database on population, among others, to submit to the Government.

Between 2022 and 2025, the committee set the goal of meeting 53 criteria for digital Government, digital economy, and digital society.

Vietnam Economic Forum highlights recovery and sustainable development

The Vietnam Business Forum 2021 was held in Hanoi on December 5 by the NA’s Committee for Economic Affairs, the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

The forum aimed to review Vietnam’s economic development in 2020-2021 along with the policies adopted to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. It also gave insight into the trend of economic restructuring and changes in production and business models due to pandemic impacts, along with policies that have been rolled out in the world to tackle COVID-19, thus withdrawing lessons for Vietnam in this regard.

Delegates at the event proposed solutions, with a focus on both short and long-term economic policies as well as social and environmental issues.

Vietnam - Korea Training Cooperation Centre launched in Ho Chi Minh City

The Vietnam-Korea Training Cooperation Centre (VKTCC) located at Ho Chi Minh City Hi-Tech Park was launched on November 30.

VKTCC is a model of adaptive training, development, and the supply of high-quality human resources in high-tech fields in accordance with the Republic of Korea’s (RoK) standards.

The centre has been established under cooperation between the Training Centre of the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-Tech Park and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) with the partnership of the Centre for Supporting Industry Development of Ho Chi Minh City (CSID) and Vietnamese and RoK businesses.

Vietnamese beauty Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien crowned Miss Grand International 2021

Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien from Vietnam was crowned Miss Grand International 2021 at the finale held on November 4 in Phuket, Thailand.

Born in 1998, the 1.71m tall beauty from Ho Chi Minh City has measurements of 90-58-94. Previously, she entered the Top 5 and won the title of Beauty of Mercy at Miss Vietnam 2018.

At Miss Grand International 2021, she competed against 60 beauties from 60 countries and territories around the world, during which she won great appreciation from the audience.

Miss Grand International was founded in 2013. The pageant aims to promote peace and stands against all kinds of conflicts through its 'Stop the wars and violence' campaign.

Vietnam’s image promoted in Times Square

The image of Vietnam and its people appeared on the big screen outside the Thompson Reuters building in the prestigious Times Square on December 2 (local time).

The video clip immediately attracted the attention of many people at the site through the beautiful images of various famous tourist attractions of Vietnam such as the mysterious Son Doong Cave, the vibrant Ho Chi Minh City, the spectacular fireworks festival and the unique Golden Bridge in Da Nang, rowing/boating in Ninh Binh, and steaming hot bowls of Pho (noodle soup) in the capital city of Hanoi.

Information about a new regular direct air service between Vietnam and the US operated by Vietnam Airlines was also provided.

Tennis star Ly Hoang Nam wins the M15 Cancun tournament in Mexico

Vietnam’s tennis ace Ly Hoang Nam toppled British player Giles Hussey in two straight sets (6-4, 6-4) on the morning of November 29 to claim the men’s singles title of the M15 Cancun tournament in Mexico.

This is the fourth professional tennis title in Nam’s career, following the Vietnam F5 Futures 2016, Thailand F3 Futures 2017, and most recently the M15 Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt last month.

With the M15 Cancun Mexico triumph, Ly Hoang Nam has added 10 points to his ATP rating, alongside winnings of US$2,160 in prize money.
