Lao Prime Minister begins Vietnam visit

Politburo member and Prime Minister of Laos Phankham Viphavanh, paid an official visit to Vietnam from January 8-10, at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Minh Chinh.

It is the first visit by a foreign high-ranking leader to Vietnam this year, showing determination of the two countries’ leaders, in promoting Vietnam - Laos special ties and effectively carrying out the Vietnam - Laos Joint Statement, in June 2021.

It is also the first meaningful event within the framework of the Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam Year of Solidarity and Friendship, in order to further tighten the bilateral special relationship.

15th National Assembly's first extraordinary session opens

The 15th National Assembly's first extraordinary session opened in Hanoi, on January 4 and was connected via videoconference to 62 delegations of NA deputies in centrally-run provinces and cities, excluding the capital city's delegation, who attended the sitting in-person.

During this extraordinary session, the NA voted on a resolution of fiscal and monetary policies to assist the implementation of the socio-economic recovery and development programme. The resolution is particularly important to coping with the pandemic, addressing losses, recovering and developing the economy and society, while reviving the labour market and dealing with social security and welfare issues.

The NA also debated and voted on a bill, amending and supplementing some articles of the Law on Public Investment, the Law on Public - Private Partnership Investment, the Law on Investment, the Law on Electricity, the Law on Enterprises, the Law on Special Consumption Tax, and the Law on Enforcement of Civil Judgments.

Vietnam exports first batch of Doan Hung pomelos to Russia

The northern province of Phu Tho, exported the first batch of Doan Hung pomelos, which were grown with sustainable agricultural practices, to the Russian market.

The batch included 36,000 pomelos with a total weight of 40 tonnes.

The export was arranged by Kim Hang Luc Ngan Organic Agriculture Company, in partnership with the provincial agricultural department and the Doan Hung District authorities.

The event marked the opening of a new stage and a new market for local pomelo farmers.

First trading session of Vietnamese stock market opens

The Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) on January 4, held a gong-beating ceremony to start the first trading session of the Vietnamese stock market.

Addressing the event, Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc said that with GDP expanding 2.59 percent, Vietnam still managed to retain microeconomic stability and good control over inflation, interest rates and exchange rates, adding that last year, the stock market contributed nearly 11 trillion VND (483 million USD) to the State budget, higher than 5.2 trillion VND in 2020.

Capital mobilisation on the stock market increased 25 percent year on year, with the value of issued corporate shares and bonds rising 2.3 times compared with 2020.

PM requires survey on COVID-19 vaccinations for children aged from five

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has assigned the Ministry of Health to coordinate with the Ministry of Education and Training in organising a survey on COVID-19 vaccinations for children aged from five.He requested learning from international experience and lessons of localities throughout the country, and preparing a plan to inoculate children.

The Government leader also required the Ministry of Health to urgently implement his instructions on further accelerating the vaccination drive and the need for imported vaccines to ensure the set target.

On January 6, the Government Office also issued a document requesting the Ministry of Health for the early finalisation of the Government's draft Resolution on securing vaccines to vaccinate children aged 5 to 12, to report to the Prime Minister.

A photo exhibition themed “Delhi- Hanoi – the bridge of friendship” took place at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) in Hanoi from January 5-8, to mark the 50th Anniversary of Vietnam-India Diplomatic Relations (January 7, 1972-2022).

On display are photos highlighting the beautiful scenery and colourful lives of people in Hanoi and Delhi.

The photos gave visitors the chance to understand more about cultural and people-to-people exchanges between India and Vietnam, which contribute to building a timeless bridge of friendship between the two nations.

Two Vietnamese doctors honoured with AFC Medical Awards

Two Vietnamese doctors, Nguyen Trong Hien and Pham Thi Thuy, have been named among the winners for the third Medical Awards of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), according to the AFC’s announcement on January 6. The Vietnamese medical officers were honoured for dedicating more than 15 years of service to football.

The AFC Medical Awards aims to acknowledge the efforts and work by Team Doctors and Team Physiotherapists, in providing the best possible care to the players, in order to facilitate the optimisation of their performance level.

This year’s awards will be presented to the winners during a ceremony of the 7th Asian Football Medicine Congress, which is set to take place in Qatar from March 6 to 10.

Vietnam’s Ho Van Y among Futsal Planet’s ten nominees for Best Men’s Goalkeeper 2021 award

Vietnamese goalkeeper Ho Van Y delivers a brilliant showing during the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021.

Prestigious futsal magazine Futsal Planet has announced its nominees for the Best Men’s Goalkeeper 2021 award, with Vietnamese goalie Ho Van Y being among the ten listed candidates.

The Futsal Planet recognition is well-deserved for the 1997-born player following his exceptional showing during the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021. Ho Van Y contributed significantly, as Vietnam progressed into the World Cup knockout stage in Lithuania last October.

Ho Van Y is the youngest nominee and one of the only two Asian goalkeepers on the list, alongside 1987-born Alireza Samimi, who once finished third in the FIFA Futsal World Cup together with the Iranian national squad.
