Party leader’s book on socialism and the path toward socialism in Vietnam, makes debut
The Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education, in collaboration with its Theoretical Council and the Su That (Truth) National Political Publishing House, held a ceremony on February 9, to debut the book named “Several theoretical and practical issues on socialism and the path toward socialism in Vietnam” by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The book selects 29 articles and speeches by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, since the preparation of the documents of the 13th National Party Congress. The general content of those articles and speeches, is a dialectical analysis and thorough explanation for big questions about socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam, from the Party leader.
The articles help clarify the essence and core values of socialism, throughout the spheres of politics, economics, the building of the Party and the political system, socio-culture, defence and security, with simple expressions, which are easy to understand for all classes of people.
State leader joins ethnic groups in spring festival

State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a spring festival of ethnic groups and launched the 2022 tree planting festival, at the Culture - Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups in Hanoi, on February 12.
Addressing officials and 200 representatives of 22 ethnic groups from 15 provinces, the leader said the Party’s ethnic minority policy, has created the best possible conditions for upholding and developing the cultural identity of each ethnic group, while facilitating the harmonisation of the groups’ culture, to form the culture of Vietnam.
The President expressed his hope that the village elderly, leaders, and artisans, will keep encouraging their communities to continue adhering to the Party and State’s policies, upholding traditional cultural values, and educating the young, thereby helping to nurture the strength and values of Vietnam, both today and in the future.
Prime Minister meets Vietnamese women’s football team

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, on February 10, met members of the Vietnamese national women’s football team, who returned home earlier that day, after earning a berth at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, for the first time and finishing fifth at the recently-concluded 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup.
The PM called the footballers “diamond girls” and Mai Duc Chung a “diamond coach”, saying they showed the talent, intelligence, will and mettle of the Vietnamese people, and overcame hardships to bring home victory, contributing to Vietnamese football.
Previously, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed a decision to present the first-class Labour Order, to the national women's football team and head coach Mai Duc Chung, in recognition of their outstanding performance, in the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup, helping Vietnam win a ticket to the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, for the first time.
The second-class Labour Order was also awarded to members of the team, namely Chuong Thi Kieu, Huynh Nhu and Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung, while other players – Thai Thi Thao, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, Tran Thi Kim Thanh and Pham Hai Yen received third-class Labour Orders.
Foreign Minister pays official visit to the RoK
Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son paid an official visit to the RoK and attended the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)-run Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) ministerial meeting from February 9-11, at the invitation of his RoK counterpart Chung Eui-yong and OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann.
During his visit, the Vietnamese diplomat held working sessions with officials of the RoK, and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the RoK.
The minister also attended the OECD-run Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP), in his capacity as co-chair of the programme for 2022-2025. As coordinator for the ASEAN-RoK relations for 2020-2023, Son also engaged in discussions with Korean partners in this regard.
Vietnam’s exports to Canada rise for third consecutive year, hitting 5.3 billion USD in 2021

Vietnam exported 5.3 billion USD worth of goods to Canada in 2021, up 21 percent year-on-year, despite facing challenges caused by the prolonged pandemic, according to the Vietnamese Trade Office in Canada.
This marked the third consecutive year that Vietnam has recorded positive export growth to the market since 2019, after both countries officially became members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
According to the office, the trend of shifting supply chains, coupled with the impressive production capacity of local enterprises, helped lure great interest of Canadian businesses, in the Vietnamese support industry products.
Singapore daily: Vietnam to develop into a new Asian tiger
In an article entitled “Roar of a new Asian tiger”, Singapore’s daily Business Times recently shared that Vietnam’s economy is now booming, while the World Bank describes it as one of the most dynamic and emerging countries, in the entire East Asian region.
According to the article, Vietnam recorded a 2.6 percent increase in gross domestic product for 2021 and its economic recovery from the pandemic, is expected to accelerate this year. DBS Group Research forecasts that GDP growth will reach eight percent in 2022, boosted by an accommodative monetary policy.
Business Times also pointed out the drastic changes of Vietnam's economy in recent years, including a wealth boom. Everything from gold-plated hotels to luxury apartments and flashy sports cars, showing the rise of Vietnam's ultra-rich and how they are spending their cash.
Pre-schoolers and primary school students in 53 provinces and cities to return to school

According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, preschool children and primary school students, in 53 of 63 provinces and cities, began returning to schools from February 7 to 14.
All 63 cities and provinces in the country, have plans to reopen schools this month, following the months of closure to help contain the spread of COVID-19, as revealed by the Ministry of Education and Training, on February 7.
All higher education institutions, have developed plans to welcome back their students, from February 14. Previously, all high school students nationwide returned to in-person learning, on February 7.
Hoi An maintains position as one of world’s most romantic destinations
The central Vietnamese coastal town of Hoi An in Quang Nam province, still maintains its position as one of the world’s 13 most romantic places for travel, selected by Global Cable News Network (CNN).
The old town, which was recognised by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage in 1999, is a warren of ancient temples, houses and stores, built around a number of canals.
Sitting on a small boat and exploring streets and craft villages, along both sides of the Hoai River, is an interesting experience for couples when they visit the town.
CNN also recommended the town's famous foods, notably banh mi (baguette sandwiches) and Cao Lau (noodle bowl).

A photo capturing a flower street vendor, by Vietnamese photographer Nguyen Phuc Thanh, was among the winners of the National Awards, at the Sony World Photography Awards 2022.
Thanh’s work, Xe Dap Va Hoa (Bike with Flowers), is a beautifully timed snap, of a flower street vendor leaving a trail of flowers, as she is cycling past a ceramic mosaic, on a street in Hanoi.
One of the largest annual photography competitions in the world, the Sony World Photography Awards saw a massive 340,000 submissions from 61 countries and 211 territories. The National Awards winners were selected from over 170,000 photos, that were submitted to the open competition.
Vietnam keeps 98th spot in FIFA rankings for February
Vietnam obtained 6.1 more points and maintained their 98th place, in the latest edition of the FIFA Men’s World Rankings.
The team was also ranked first in Southeast Asia, followed by Thailand and the Philippines.
The results were attributed to their 3-1 victory over China, on the first day of the Lunar New Year, which helped them become the Southeast Asian team with the best performance in the history of the World Cup qualifiers.
In the world top ten, Belgium managed to retain their top spot with 1,828.45 points, followed by Brazil and France. The UK lost their 4th place to Argentina.
