Vietnam persists with Doi Moi, door-opening and integration policy: PM

The 4th Vietnam Economic Forum has affirmed the correct and effective policy of the Party and State on pursuing Doi Moi (renewal), building an independent, self-reliant economy in combination with proactive and active international integration, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said at the forum on June 5.

The effective implementation of this policy during more than 35 years of Doi Moi has contributed to producing historical achievements, the Government leader told the high-level session at the forum, adding that in the current situation, the building of an independent, self-reliant economy in combination with proactive and active international integration is an objective inevitability.

Vietnam’s industrial production up 8.3% in five-month period

The index of industrial production (IIP) in the first five months of 2022 rose by 8.3% over the same period last year, on top of May’s increase of 10.4% from a year earlier.

According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), manufacturing climbed 9.2% while electricity generation and distribution went up 5.5%. The mining industry rose 4.1% while water supply and waste treatment edged up 2.5%.

Several key industries recorded higher growth than the same period last year, including clothes, electricity equipment, leather products, electronic products, computers, and optical devices.

Government extends deadline for tax, land lease payments in 2022

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai has signed a decree on extending the deadline for value-added tax, corporate income tax, personal income tax and land lease payments in 2022.

The beneficiaries are enterprises, organisations, household businesses and individuals in such economic sectors as agriculture, forestry, fisheries, construction, beverage, logistics and employment services.

Specifically, the due date will be extended by six months for value-added tax incurred during the tax period between March-May 2022 and the first quarter of 2022.

The Ministry of Public Security will use a new passport form from July 1, 2022, reported the Vietnam Government Portal (VGP).

The new passport form will be printed with Vietnamese spectacular sceneries and cultural heritages, namely Ha Long Bay, Hue Citadel, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, Nha Rong Habour, Lung Cu Flag Tower, and so on.

Apart from promoting the images of Vietnam to the outside word and uphold the tradition, history, geography and culture of the country, the new passport form is expected to ensure technical safety and prevent counterfeiting.

Vietnam successfully produces vaccine against African swine fever

Vietnam has successfully produced a vaccine against African swine fever (ASF), said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien on June 1.

The ministry will officially announce this achievement, and grant a circulation permit for the vaccine on June 3, stated Tien.

The vaccine has the trade name of NAVET-ASFVAC produced by NAVETCO National Veterinary Joint Stock Company, with the expected price at 34,000 VND – 36,000 VND (1.47 USD – 1.55 USD) per dose.

According to him, although more than 4,000 studies related to the virus and vaccine development by scientists have been published, there has been no commercial vaccine against the disease in the world so far.

Vietnam jumps up COVID-19 recovery index: Nikkei Asia

Vietnam and the Philippines showed their best performances in the COVID-19 Recovery Index for May announced by Nikkei Asia on June 3 as both managed to ease restrictions while keeping infections low.

The index assesses achievements of countries and regions in responding to and managing infections, vaccine rollouts and social mobility.

Based on data newly updated by Nikkei, Vietnam jumped 48 places to 14th.

Nikkaei said that Vietnam is also the first country in Southeast Asia to exempt foreign travelers from all testing, vaccination and quarantine requirements.

Vietnam now in 95th position in FIFA latest rankings

A 2-0 victory over Afghanistan on June 1 helped the Vietnamese men’s football team gain 3.46 points to take the 95th place in FIFA rankings with 1,218.84 points.

The team also rejoined the Asia's top 15 group after being dropped out due to two consecutive losses to China and Oman in the third round of 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Vietnam still retains the top spot in Southeast Asia, followed by Thailand and the Philippines.
