Conference looks into resolutions adopted at fifth plenum of 13th Party Central Committee

More than 1 million officials and Party members nationwide participated in a conference looking into resolutions adopted at the fifth plenum of the 13th-tenure Party Central Committee, in Hanoi on July 21.

The national conference was held by the Politburo and the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat in both online and in-person formats.

The participants heard thematic reports on the perfection of institutions and policies to raise the efficiency and effectiveness of land management and use, agriculture, farmers and rural areas, collective economy, and the quality of Party members in the new situation, among others.

Son La, Hai Duong export fresh longan abroad

The ceremony to launch the export of Song Ma longan to the EU and the UK.

The northern mountainous province of Son La held an event on July 23 to export 20 tonnes of fresh longan to Europe and the UK, and another 8 tonnes of dried longan flesh to China.

They were Son La Province’s first batches of longan exports in 2022, which came as part of the Song Ma Longan Festival.

Previously on July 22, Chi Linh city in Hai Duong province held a ceremony to harvest longan for export and ship the first three tonnes of longan to the US, Europe and Singapore.

Vietnam becomes world’s sixth largest fibre and yarn exporter

Vietnam has surpassed the Republic of Korea to become the world’s sixth largest fibre and yarn exporter after shipping abroad 2.37 billion USD worth of these items in the first five months of 2022.

The revenue increased 10% from a year earlier, according to the Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association (VCOSA).

Meanwhile, textiles and garments, fibre, yarn and fabric brought home 18.73 billion USD in total exports during the period, rising 20.81% year on year. That includes 14.99 billion USD in textiles and garments (up 22.2%), 376.8 million USD in geotextiles (up 27%), and 979.8 million USD in materials (up 19.2%).

Vietnamese students win medals in International Olympiads in 2022

All four members of the Vietnamese team that competed at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2022 won gold medals, which drew the participation of 326 students from 84 nations and territories.

In addition, all four Vietnamese students competing at the International Biology Olympiad 2022 (IBO 2022) pocketed medals, bringing home one silver and three bronze. IBO 2022 was organised in Armenia from July 10-18, seeing the participation of 231 candidates from 63 countries and territories worldwide.

Vietnam ranked fifth with five medals at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2022 hosted by Switzerland from July 10 – 17. The five-member team won three gold, one silver and one bronze at this year’s virtual competition, coming fifth after China, Romania, the Republic of Korea and the United States.

Nguyen Dinh Chieu’s famous poem introduced in Ukraine

The Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine, in collaboration with competent Ukrainian agencies, organised a book introduction ceremony in Kiev to showcase Luc Van Tien (The Tale of Luc Van Tien), the most popular poem by Vietnamese blind poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu.

In his remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thach thanked the Ukrainian side for its efforts to publish the work in the local language.

Therefore, the book launch, despite its small scale, is a meaningful activity in contribution to expanding cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two peoples, Thach said.

Hoi An, Phu Quoc listed among world’s leading destinations by US magazine

The ancient Hoi An town in Vietnam’s central province of Quang Nam has found itself voted 20th place in a new global listing of the 25 best cities chosen by readers of US magazine Travel + Leisure.

Hoi An used to be a busy international commercial port from the 16th to 19th centuries, attracting merchant ships from China and Japan. It is a World Heritage site recognised by UNESCO.

Meanwhile, Phu Quoc, Vietnam's largest island off the southern province of Kien Giang, has been selected as one of the 25 best islands in the world by readers of the magazine.

Vietnam wins three gold medals at 6th world vovinam championship

The Vietnamese team won three gold and one bronze medal at the 6th Vietnamese traditional martial arts (Vovinam) World Championship, which ended on July 23 in Paris, France.

The event drew 500 martial artists from 15 countries in Europe, America, Africa and Vietnam.

France triumphed at the 6th Vovinam World Championship, bringing home 16 gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze. It was followed by Senegal and Belgium.
