NA Chairwoman leaves for Europe on official trip

National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and a senior delegation of the legislature are on official visits to Sweden and Hungary and the Czech Republic from April 6-14.

During her three-day official visit (April 6-9) to Sweden, she talked with Speaker of the Swedish parliament, Urban Ahlin; met the Mayor of Stockholm city, Eva Louis Erlandsson, and leaders of the Ericson and Sweco Groups; and paid a courtesy visit to Crown Princess of Sweden, Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée.

The NA Chairwoman arrived at Budapest International Airport in Budapest on April 8 for an official visit to Hungary through April 11. She met with Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, Gergely Gulyas.

Activities celebrate Hung Kings Temple Festival

A wide variety of activities were held in Phu Tho province to mark the death anniversary of the Hung Kings (the 10th day of the third lunar month) and celebrate the annual Hung Kings Temple Festival.

Notably on April 6, a delegation of Party and State leaders, led by President Tran Dai Quang, offered incense to Hung Kings at the Thuong (Upper) Temple at the Hung Kings Temple Special National Historical Relic Site to pay tribute for their contributions to the national construction as well as pray for a peaceful, stronger country and prosperity of people.

People from across the country and overseas Vietnamese flocked to the Hung Kings Temple to pay homage to the Kings as well as join unique activities during the festival.

Former General Secretary Le Duan’s 110th birthday marked in Quang Tri

A ceremony marked former General Secretary Le Duan’s 110th birthday on April 7 in his home province of Quang Tri, in the presence of current Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang.

The ceremony was an occasion for today’s generation to recall Le Duan’s diligent devotion to the cause of national liberation and reunification.
Party, State leaders and authorities of central Quang Tri province also paid tribute to the late Party General Secretary, Le Duan, at a monument dedicated to him in Trieu Thanh commune, Trieu Phong district.

Vietnam attends 8th Mekong-Ganga Cooperation SOM

The eighth Mekong Ganga Cooperation (MGC) Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) was held in New Delhi, India on April 7. The MGC is an initiative by six countries – India and five ASEAN countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam for cooperation in tourism, culture, education, as well as transport and communications.

At the meeting, Assistance to Foreign Minister Vu Quang Minh, head of the Vietnamese delegation, proposed several ideas to improve the effectiveness of the Mekong-Ganga cooperation.

Leaders congratulate Khmer people on Chol Chnam Thmay festival

Politburo members, President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan and Deputy Prime Minister, Vuong Dinh Hue, congratulated and sent best wishes to the Khmer people in Soc Trang province on the occasion of their traditional New Year festival Chol Chnam Thmay.

They asked local authorities to pay more attention to the Khmer community in the Southwest region to help improve their living standards.

National Don Ca Tai Tu Festival kicks off in Binh Duong

The second National Don Ca Tai Tu (traditional musical art form of the south) Festival officially kicked off in Binh Duong province on April 8.

The five-day event features a range of unique activities including performances of Don ca tai tu and a space for gastronomical delights every night, a Don ca tai tu competition, themed ‘Don ca tai tu – a southern heritage’, a photo contest on Don ca tai tu singing and an exchange programme for outstanding artisans.

Vietnam retain place in FIFA rankings for April

Vietnam retained its place among Southeast Asia’s top three teams as the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced the latest men’s world rankings on April 6.

The team ranked 136th globally and came third in the Southeast Asian region with 217 points, just behind the Philippines (world no. 127, 251 points) and Thailand (world no. 129, 245 points).

VITM 2017 takes place in Hanoi

The 2017 Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) took place in Hanoi from April 6-9, featuring the participation of more than 650 travel agencies, restaurants, providers of tourism services and tourism promotion centres from 25 countries and territories and 43 cities and provinces across Vietnam.

At the event, 20,070 domestic and international tours were sold, bringing about VND212 billion.

Winners of Golden Kite Awards announced

The Golden Kite awards ceremony was held on April 9 in Ho Chi Minh City to honour the most outstanding cinematographic works and artists of the year.

The film, entitled ‘Sai Gon Anh Yeu Em’ (Sai Gon, I Love You) by Ly Minh Thang, won the best feature film by the Vietnam Cinematography Association. Meanwhile, the best television film award went to ‘Zippo, Mu tat va em’ (Zippo, Mustard and You) by Meritorious Artist Trong Trinh and Tien Huy.
