NA starts Q&A sessions at third meeting

The 14th National Assembly began question and answer (Q&A) sessions as part of the on-going third meeting, in Hanoi on June 13.

The Q&A sessions, scheduled to take place until June 15, were broadcast live on the following channels, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, National Assembly and the parliament’s website at www.quochoi.vn.

Cuban NA Chairman wraps up Vietnam visit

Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez concluded his eight-day official visit to Vietnam on June 18. The visit was made at the invitation of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

During the visit, the Cuban top legislator held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; paid courtesy calls on Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang; and met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. He also delivered a speech at a plenary session of the National Assembly and attended a question-and-answer session.

The 9th Vietnam-Russia Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy-Defence-Security and the political consultation at deputy minister level between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and Russia took place in Hanoi on June 14 under the chair of Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and his Russian counterpart Igor Morgulov.

The two sides exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern, underlining that profound changes in the region and the world have caused direct impacts on economic connectivity as well as cooperation in addressing regional and global issues.

Global Innovation Index 2017: Vietnam climbs 12 places in annual ranking

This is the highest GII ranking Vietnam has held so far.

Vietnam has climbed 12 places to rank 47th among 127 countries and economies on the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2017, which was announced by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Cornell University and the INSEAD graduate business school on June 15.

This is the highest GII ranking Vietnam has held so far. From third position in 2016, Vietnam has risen to lead the group of middle and lower-income economies in terms of GII this year, scoring 38.34 in total.

Australia allows shrimp processed in Vietnam to be re-imported

Australia has lifted its ban on shrimp imports, allowing shrimp originating in Australia to be processed in Vietnam, before re-entering the Australian market.

Australia has accepted applications for the import of raw shrimp caught in Australia, which are then exported to Vietnam for processing and re-imported back into Australia, announced the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).

On June 15, the Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources issued a notification that it had received a certificate from the Vietnamese authorities - the National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (NAFIQAD), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), which states that Vietnam meets the new import conditions set forth in the new Australian quarantine certificates.

95 works win 11th National Press Awards

As many as 95 media pieces have won the 11th National Press Awards 2016 with the awards ceremony to be held in Hanoi on June 21 - Vietnam’s Revolutionary Journalism Day.

The winning works include seven A prizes, 24 B prizes, 39 C prizes and 25 consolation prizes, announced Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalism Association Ho Quang Loi at a press conference on June 14 in Hanoi. Of them, 48 works or 50 percent in total, belong to local press agencies, said Loi, who is also Standing Vice Chairman of the Council of the 11th National Press Awards 2016.

Vietnamese artists win prize at International Design Award

Painter Nguyen Thu Thuy and her colleagues from the New Hanoi Art Company have been awarded a bronze medal at the 10th International Design Award (IDA) ceremony, held at the Architecture and Design A+D Museum, in Los Angeles, the US, for their mural painting at Da Nang Airport.

In addition, painter Thuy also won a consolation prize for her ‘Love Heart for Hanoi’, a heart-shaped sculpture decorated with millions of ceramic tiles, located by Truc Bach Lake in downtown Hanoi. The two prizes are in the same ‘Society and Design for Environment’ category at the IDA.

Vietnamese athletes win three golds at Thailand Open

Vietnamese athletes won three gold medals on the third day of competition at the Thailand Open Track and Field Championship, on June 14 in Bangkok.

Le Tu Chinh secured her second gold of the competition after winning in the women’s 200m event, with a time of 23.52sec. On June 12, Chinh grabbed the first gold for Vietnam in the 100m event. Nguyen Hoai Van won the first title in the men’s javelin event with a throw of 72.26m, setting a new national record. The second title went to Do Quoc Luat in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase.
