1. PM visits Germany, attends G20 Summit

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse paid a visit to Germany and attended the G20 Summit in Hamburg from July 5-8, at the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
During his time in Germany, the PM talked with German Chancellor Angela Markel and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier; held a dialogue with a number of leading Germany businesses; and attended and delivered speech at the Vietnam-Germany Business Forum.
The Vietnamese leader was the keynote speaker of the discussion on sustainable development, climate change, and energy, at the G20 Summit in Hamburg. On the sidelines of the event, PM Phuc had official meetings with President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in, Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Indian PM Narendra Modi, President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker, amongst other senior officials.
2. PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc visits Netherlands

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse are paying an official visit to the Netherlands from July 9-11 at the invitation of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Ruttee.
Upon his arrival in Amsterdam on July 9, the PM hosted receptions for leaders of several economic groups and organisations. On the same day, he cut the ribbon to inaugurate the new headquarters of the embassy of Vietnam in The Hague.
3. Lao NA Chairwoman pays official visit to Vietnam

Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotou paid a visit to Vietnam from July 3 to 8 at the invitation of the Vietnamese Party, State and NA.
During her six-day stay, Pany Yathotou and her Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended numerous activities to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and 40 years since the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty on Amity and Cooperation. The Lao NA leader also met with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
4. Vietnam, UN sign new cooperation framework for 2017-2021

The Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung and UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Kamal Malhotra, on behalf of the UN, signed the new Joint One Strategic Plan (OSP) for the 2017-2021 period, between the Government of Vietnam and 18 UN agencies, on July 5.
The strategic plan aims to mobilise, manage and effectively use the provided UN resources, in order to serve Vietnam's socio-economic development in accordance with UN goals. The document is also an important strategic framework for the UN and its agencies to identify specific programmes and projects for the continuous implementation of the Delivering as One initiative, while identifying more effective areas for collaboration, limiting duplication, whilst reducing the time and cost of participating parties.
5. Vinamilk tops Forbes list of 40 most valuable Vietnamese brands

This is the second consecutive year in which Vinamilk has topped the Forbes Vietnam list.
The Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) topped the 2017 list of the 40 most valuable Vietnamese company brands, released by Forbes Vietnam on July 3. This is the second consecutive year in which the Vietnamese milk giant has come in first place, with a brand value totaling more than US$1.7 billion.
The total brand values of the 40 companies reached over US$5.4 billion, representing an increase of 20% when compared to the 2016 list. Military-run telecom operator Viettel and construction giant Vingroup ranked second and third, with respective values of US$849.6 million and US$299.3 million. The smallest value in the list went to the Loc Troi Group with US$13.1 million.
6. Two new thermal power plants licensed

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Dang Huy Dong presents the investment license to the BOT Nam Dinh 1 thermal power plant project.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment has licensed two thermo-electric plants, one in the northern province of Nam Dinh and the other in Thanh Hoa province in the central region.
The US$2.07 billion BOT Nam Dinh 1 thermal power plant will cover more than 242 hectares in Hai Chau and Hai Ninh communes, Hai Hau district. The Singaporean investors will design, construct, operate and transfer over the coal-fired thermal power plant which will have an output of approximately 1,109.4 MW. Meanwhile, the BOT Nghi Son 2 thermal power plant in Thanh Hoa has drawn a total investment capital of nearly US$2.8 billion from Japanese investors. It will be designed and developed under the build, operate and transfer (BOT) model and will have a capacity of 1,200 MW.
7. Top Vietnamese travel agencies in 2017 honoured

Ten hotels are awarded with the "Top 5 Star Hotels in Vietnam in 2017" under the Vietnam Tourism Awards 2017.
The Vietnam Tourism Awards 2017 have been granted to 91 tourism organisations, enterprises and individuals, who have recorded outstanding achievements and contributions to the development of Vietnam’s tourism sector.
As announced at an awards ceremony in Hanoi on July 8, the winners included ten international travel enterprises, ten domestic travel agencies, 30 three to five star hotels, five transportation companies, ten restaurants, two travel stops, seven tourist sites, five tourism complexes, ten golf courses, one airline with the largest number of tourists and one airline with the fastest growth in tourism.
8. Ly Hoang Nam conquers ATP’s top 500

Top Vietnamese tennis player Ly Hoang Nam
Vietnamese tennis star Ly Hoang Nam has set a new milestone in his tennis career, as well as in the history of Vietnamese tennis, as he climbed up to 475th position with 79 points in the ATP men’s world rankings, announced on July 3.
Nam’s promotion has been attributed to his men’s singles title claimed at the recent Thailand F3 Futures tournament. He is the first Vietnamese tennis player to successfully conquer the ATP’s top 500 thus far.
