Hungarian Prime Minister visits Vietnam

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his spouse arrived in Hanoi, on September 24, to start their official three-day visit to Vietnam from September 24-26 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

PM Orbán Viktor will pay a courtesy call to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang, hold talks with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and meet Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. He will also attend the Vietnam-Hungary Business Forum.

The leaders will discuss the measures needed to accelerate their bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues of shared concern.

PM meets WB Country Director in Vietnam

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called on the World Bank (WB) to intensify its coordination and mobilisation of capital from international donors, in order to develop suitable projects, which meet Vietnam’s development investment demands.

He told the WB Country Director in Vietnam Ousmane Dione, in Hanoi, on September 20, that Vietnam always heeds the effective use of loans, especially those in the form of official development assistance (ODA).

The leader suggested that the bank seeks grants for Vietnam, particularly non-refundable aid, in order to help agencies and localities access preferential loans following their graduation from the International Development Association (IDA).

Central Inspection Commission finds multiple serious violations by Party members

The Central Inspection Commission (CIC) announced on September 18 that it has found multiple serious violations committed by a number of Party members, most notably Da Nang Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh.

Anh is to be disciplined for using degrees awarded by an unaccredited educational institution and for infringing bans on Party members. He has also been found to have violated the Party's regulations on personnel and accepting cars given by enterprises as gifts. Anh is also held accountable for various other violations committed by the Da Nang Party Committee, as its acting head.

Pham The Dung, a former deputy secretary of Gia Lai province has been found to have violated the principle of democratic centralism, committed wrongdoing when renting land without bidding, opened unauthorised border gates and appointed unqualified relatives. Other Party members to face disciplinary action include the senior leaders of the Vietnam National Chemical Group, the Southwest Steering Committee and the Dak Nong Party Committee.

Vietnam scraps significant number of business conditions

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has discarded more than half out of a total of 1216 business conditions across 27 sectors, in a move considered by many as historic, in order to stimulate economic growth.

The decision was made by Minister Tran Tuan Anh, on September 20, with 752 rules to be abolished, higher than the initial target of 612.

Government Office Mai Tien Dung said, on September 22, that besides this positive move, the MOIT should continue to deal with struggling projects under its management and focus on divesting capital from State-own enterprises (SOE).

RoK firm commences construction of first aero engines plant in Vietnam

At the ground breaking ceremony for the Hanwha Aero Engines Plant

Hanwha Techwin from the Republic of Korea (RoK) held a ground breaking ceremony for the Hanwha Aero Engines Plant at the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in Hanoi, on September 21, which is the first project of its kind in Vietnam.

The plant will produce components and engines for several of the world's leading airlines, including General Electric (GE), Pratt & Whitney (PW) and Rolls-Royce.

The project will be a foundation for the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park to attract hi-tech enterprises from the RoK and other countries to invest in the park, contributing to enhancing the science and technology potential of the North and Vietnam in general.

Vietnam wins four medals at International Dance Festival

Vietnamese dance artists won four gold and ten silver medals at the 2017 International Dance Festival, which wrapped up in Ninh Binh province on September 22, following seven days of competition.
Vietnamese artist Nguyen Van Nam from the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet was named as one of the three winners of the ‘Best Dancer’ prize at the festival, together with dancers Nicole Barroso from the Philippines and Lu Peng from China.

The festival was jointly held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Department of Performing Arts and the Vietnam Dancing Artists’ Association (VDAA) to provide a venue for dance artists to showcase their talents and learn from their colleagues, while introducing their cultural values to international friends.

Vietnamese photographer wins FIAP’s gold medal

Photographer Truong Thanh Nha won a gold medal at the Photo Club Arizona (PCA) Salon 2017 in Serbia for his black & white photo.

The photo also won the A prize at a competition launched by the Vietnam Association of Photography Artists in 2012. Two photos by Nha are also displayed at the salon.

Other Vietnamese photographers who bagged awards include Tran Phong with PCA’s gold medal, Nguyen Ngoc Thach with FIAP’s Honourable Mention, Le Hoang Nhan with PCA’s Honourable Mention and Nguyen Trung Kien with PCA’s silver medal.

Vietnam ranks fouth in ASEAN Para Games

The Vietnam's team won a total 161 medals and ranked fourth at the ninth ASEAN Para Games, which concluded in Malaysia on September 23.

The Vietnamese team had 142 players vying for medals in 158 events in eight out of 16 categories, including swimming, track-and-field, weightlifting, chess, badminton, Boccia, football for the visually-impaired and table tennis.

Vietnamese athletes brought home 40 golds in the categories of athletics, swimming, chess and powerlifting; 61 silvers in the categories of athletics, swimming, chess, powerlifting, table tennis and badminton; and 60 bronzes in the categories of athletics, swimming, chess, powerlifting, table tennis and badminton.
