Party Central Committee adopts sixth session resolution
The 12th Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) adopted the resolution of the sixth plenary session at the end of the closing meeting on the morning of October 11.
The session also heard reports delivered by the Politburo summing up the CPVCC discussions on the projects in regards to population work; management reform and financial mechanisms, and the reorganisation of public non-business agencies; as well as issues related to streamlining the political system apparatus and enhancing its efficiency and effectiveness.
NA Standing Committee convenes 15th session
The 15th session of the 14th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee opened in Hanoi on October 11, with their agenda focusing on the reports that will be submitted to the legislature’s upcoming fourth meeting.
Documents to be discussed during the two-and-a-half-day session included a report assessing the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and State budget in 2017, as well as the socio-economic development plan and State budget estimate and allocation for 2018, among others.

National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has led a high-ranking NA delegation from Vietnam to attend the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-137) that officially opened in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on October 14.
The event, themed “Promoting cultural pluralism and peace through inter-faith and inter-ethnic dialogue”, was attended by an estimated 2,000 delegates, including over 80 parliamentary leaders from IPU member nations.

The Ariyana International Convention Centre, a key facility in service of the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2017, was officially inaugurated and put into operation in the central coastal city of Da Nang on October 15, witnessed by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Da Nang municipal leaders.
Covering an area of 12,000 square metres and connected with the Furama Da Nang International Convention Palace, the Ariyana International Convention Centre has become the largest convention and workshop complex in Vietnam, accommodating up to 5,000 seats and 15 functional rooms, with the grand ballroom alone offering 2,500 seats.
Floods cause severe damage in northern and central localities

Thia Bridge in Yen Bai province collapsed due to severe floods, washing away five people, including an on-duty reporter on October 11.
Downpours triggered by the tropical low pressure system over the past week have threatened to overflow reservoirs and have caused serious damage to houses and roads across the northern and central regions.
A total of 77 people in the northern and central provinces were reported as dead or missing, as of the morning of October 12, during widespread floods caused by the torrential rains that hit the localities. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed a telegraph calling for strengthened efforts in overcoming the consequences caused by the widespread floods in the northern and central provinces.
First print of “Duong Kach Menh” introduced to public

The first print of "Duong Kach Menh" is introduced to the public at the exhibition.
An exhibition entitled “Light from the Revolutionary Path” opened in Hanoi, on October 10, with the first print of “Duong Kach Menh” (Revolutionary Path), a book written by late President Ho Chi Minh, in the spotlight. The exhibition is being held at the Vietnam National Museum of History to mark the 90th anniversary of the first publication of the book (1927 – 2017).
The museum’s deputy director Nguyen Van Doan said “Duong Kach Menh” (Revolutionary Path) includes lectures by Nguyen Ai Quoc, an alias of Ho Chi Minh, that were given at training courses for staff of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League, held in Guangzhou, China, between 1925 and 1927. The first printed versions were secretly moved to French-controlled Vietnam before 1930.
Vietnam wins four gold medals at world bodybuilding champs
Vietnam has won four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals at the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The gold medals were won by Dinh Thi Kim Loan in the women’s 55kg, Tran Thi Cam Tu in the women’s fitness at 1.60 cm, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao in the women’s fitness at 1.65 cm, and Pham Van Mach in the men’s 55kg bodybuilding. Nguyen Bich Tram brought home a silver medal in the women’s over 55kg and another silver medal went to Khanh Khuong in the men’s 55kg bodybuilding.
