Lao Deputy PM visits Vietnam

Lao Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has visited Vietnam. During the visit, he met General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and held talks with Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh. He also visited Binh Duong and Tien Giang provinces.

The visit to Vietnam was expected to make significant contributions to consolidating the special friendship and cooperation that exists between the two countries.

New Transport Minister, Government Inspectorate General named

The National Assembly has ratified the appointment of Nguyen Van The to the post of Minister of Transport and Le Minh Khai to the post of Government Inspectorate General at its fourth session on October 26.

Up to 93.98% or 461 of the NA deputies voted yes to the appointment of Nguyen Van The, while 94.5% or 464 legislators backed the appointment of Le Minh Khai. With almost a full majority of “yes” votes, the legislature approved a Resolution ratifying the Prime Minister’s proposal on the appointments.

Fourth plenary session of the 14th National Assembly opens

The fourth plenary session of the 14th National Assembly officially opened in Hanoi on the morning of October 23. The session will last for 26 days, wrapping up on November 24, during which the legislators will consider the important socio-economic goals for this year and the subsequent years and decide on a number of personnel issues.

They will adopt six draft laws, 12 draft resolutions and give their opinions on nine other bills. In addition, the NA will spend 15 days on discussing and deciding on several important issues in the country, such as the government’s reports on socio-economic development in 2017 and 2018, the State budget estimate and allocation for 2018, crime prevention and control, the settlement of complaints and denunciations in 2017, as well as spending another three days on question and answer sessions.

Vietnam Aquaculture Expo and Forum opens in Can Tho

The Vietnam Aquaculture Expo and Forum 2017 officially opened at the Can Tho International Exhibition Fair Centre in the Mekong Delta city, on October 25.

The three-day event attracted the participation of over 70 domestic and foreign fisheries firms. On display were farming equipment, fisheries feed and manufacturing equipment, and processing and packaging lines, among others.

YouthSpeak Forum 2017 discusses sustainable employment goal

The YouthSpeak Forum 2017, held in Hanoi on October 22, provided a platform for youngsters to discuss social issues and seek actions towards the goal of sustainable economic growth and employment.

The target is part of the 17 United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs), which focuses on tackling the three main problems of poverty, gender inequality and environmental pollution.

The event is an annual project, initiated by the AIESEC, an independent non-governmental organization on youth leadership, which has been organised in 126 countries worldwide. This year the forum attracted 500 delegates, who are leaders of enterprises and social activists.

Photo exhibition honours Vietnamese heritages

A photo exhibition, honouring Vietnam’s heritages, was organised by the Vietnam Heritage Magazine and Cannon Vietnam at the Hoa Lu stadium, Ho Chi Minh City, on October 26.

The event features 100 excellent photos by 66 photographers from the 6th Vietnam Heritage Photo Awards contest, which was launched earlier this year in July. The photos, selected from over 3,400 entries, capture moments in nature, human life and architecture.

Vietnam wins a bronze medal at World Skills Competition

Tran Nguyen Ba Phuoc from the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City brought home a solitary bronze medal for Vietnam in the occupation of IT software solutions, at the 44th World Skills Competition (WSC 2017) in the United Arab Emirates.

This is the second consecutive time that Vietnam has secured a medal at the WSC arena. At the previous contest held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, two years ago, Vietnam also claimed a bronze thanks to Nguyen Duy Thanh in the same occupation.

Diwali Festival takes place in Hanoi

The Indian Embassy held the Diwali Festival, a traditional New Year festival of the Hindu community to celebrate their new year, in Hanoi, on October 27.

Visitors to the festival had the opportunity to enjoy traditional and modern dances, as well as to learn more about the land and people of India through unique cultural activities, such as Henna painting, cuisine tasting, traditional handicrafts and the custom of solemn candle-light displays.
